Twin class 2 railguns

I tried twin class 1 railguns and they disappointed me greatly. Very limited and costly ammunition for not that much of a punch. Now I have some cash and upped power plant so I would like to ask whether class 2 railgun is something different performance wise. Twin class 2 railguns cost like 3 cobras so I would maybe expect they pack some serious punch, maybe even can spin smaller ships (well, it shoots high velocity bigass projectile afterall)? What is your experience with say twin beam, twin class 2 railguns?

Class 2 weapons in general do about twice the damage of the class 1 versions. That said I've never been all that impressed by the C2 railguns either, they're good for sniping subsystems but I'd rather carry big lasers to break shields. I suppose the setup you suggest would be the best compromise if you want to use them, as beams would be the strongest you could fit against shields.

I'm not sure that's right - I thought they did max 20-25pct more damage than class 1, unless something's changed.

OP - I have not tried twins, but have tried one class 2. I too was disappointed - the damage they inflict seems wholly unpredictable. Sometimes they do a lot of damage, and other times a lot less. Sometimes they take down shields, and sometimes they barely dent shields. Odd.

They are good. I was running my Python with 3 of them and fights were trivial once the enemy got in front of you.

2 medium rail guns and 2 lasers is what I put on the Cobra when overcharged multicannons are not available.

Rails used to be awesome in Beta. I ran with 6 on my old ASP and just went round instagibbing anything smaller than a MKIII.

They have since been toned down a lot and do not pack the same punch that they used to.

I tried 5 Class 2s on my Python and was underwhelmed.

Class 3 Beam lasers on the other hand are BRUTAL...

Well the only structured testing I've seen someone do suggests more than double the damage. This test was done in Beta 1: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=35234 (back then what we call class 1 and 2 were called 2 and 4).

I'm sure everyone would be happy with a more recent test but until I see one I see no reason to discard it. It may not be totally accurate but probably a lot closer to the truth than 25%.
