Two accounts same pc? two different steam accounts

My children love playing elite and i have decided if i can...... i will create there another steam account which is not a problem and purchase elite through that steam account for a xmas present as a surprise.
i know i can create multiple short cuts as the launcher to launch elite from other accounts but not sure if i can do it from two different steam accounts?
Please can any one point me in the right direction.... on how to do this...

Is your original Steam purchase from before April 25th this year? If so you can run that copy of E D separately from Steam - I have an older Steam version and I don't even have the game installed in that Steam Library. I bought another copy in a Steam Sale, just used a new / different Steam account - this was after 25th April so that needs to be installed in Steam Library and run via Steam.

So if you have an old enough original copy you can just run that outside Steam and the new one be installed in Steam.

I don't know if you need to uninstall the original from Steam to avoid conflicts.

I also don't know if there might be conflicts if both versions were bought post April 25th.

(* FYI - the April 25th issue is that from then on the Steam version is a "no CD-Key" version and so cannot be validated direct from Frontier but requires you to use your Steam login.)

I purchased my 2 Elite Dangerous accounts on Steam but I don't use the SteamApp to launch them.

They are installed in different folders on the same drive (I don't use the Steam game folder) and you can create a separate shortcut to each Elite Launcher.

The 2 accounts will share the same keybindings and settings but each Launcher will preserve the login/password for that specifc commander.

You can even run them both at the same time if your PC is capable... I often do this to have my second account holding some special cargo like Thargoid sensors, SAP8 containers, etc...

If both accounts are "true" FD accounts, then yes - all you need are two (multiple) copies of the Launcher. You could also use only one copy and log out/authenticate each time you want to switch accounts.

in VR they dont work like that.... before i could launch steam VR then launch game from with in folder and it would work with out steam running now can not launch the game....

unless i can redirect steam to each elite exe. then it would work....
