Two best things about this game.

I bought an awesome joystick and I was introduced to voice attack.

Sorry, but those will have to be used somewhere else. A place that doesn't put new players through interdiction hell.

Most MMO's have a designated place for a new player to get his feet wet and progressively more challenging areas after that. The MMO's that wish to expand their market anyway.

Myself? I'm not going to haul hydrogen for two weeks to buy a gimped class F laser. Especially when it is "sporting" to pirate hydrogen by interdicting a loaner vessel with loaner components (except for that shiny new class F laser).

Congratulations to the folks that like to club baby seals. 350 billion stars and you feel compelled to hang out at newbville, chasing folks away from the game at a time when they are acquiring that critical first impression. This game won't last.

The flying and landing is kind of cool, but it isn't worth the frustration.

I can not recommend.

My first and last post.

I am sure I am stating the obvious here, but have you tried Solo or Private Group? It can be good to do this to get your space legs and get used to the game before going into Open.

The learning curve is steeper than most games, stick with it and you will be rewarded.

Game will certainly last, but hope you can get past the negativity.

Am I just (un)lucky? I've always played open. I've never been "griefed" or even pirated. Hell, I've never even been interdicted by a CMDR. I rarely see anyone - even in "newbville". I had no trouble upgrading from my Sidewinder (although it does take some time). Where are all these other players that cause the newbies problems? They never bothered me...

Every game, unless they hard code it so you can't do it, griefers (because these people are not doing it for the money) will stick around newbie systems. Knowing this, when I started out the first thing I did was moved away from the newbie systems.

Hauling hydrogen isn't the happiest of options - to get some starter cash the better bet is to take courier missions for a while.
