TWO NPC Pilots!

Hello Developers!
I have an Anaconda outfitted for combat with the 6D Fighter Hanger; i.e., with 2 fighter bays. I have hired 2 NPC Crew members, yet I am only allowed to use 1 at a time? This makes no sense. There is no viable reason to hire more than 1 NPC Crew member, being that you can only use 1 at a time. If I have a 2-bay Fighter Hanger, I should be able to set 2 NPC Crew members as "Active", and then be able to deploy 2 Fighters at the same time.

I got the impression, back when they first introduced NPC crew, that they would eventually introduce more NPC crew ship roles. But that either fell by the wayside or I got the wrong impression :D

There is some advantage to having two fighter bays. When one fighter gets destroyed, you can immediately launch a fresh one, rather than having to wait for one to be 3D printed (or however they're supposedly made).

You can also launch two fighters simultaneously in multicrew, with either:
  • one NPC-controlled fighter + one player-controlled fighter; or
  • two player-controlled fighters
 
With the new pilot rebuy option having multiple pilots has no use anymore.
However having two bays allows for quickly launching a new fighter after it getting destroyed.

In Multicrew you can have two pilots.
 
This has been requested for a LONG time. I would love it, but at the same time it would also be SUPER powerful to have 2 fighters able to assist you at once.

If i was given the choice between able to launch 2 fighters at once, OR launch a single sidewinder or eagle, i would take the later.
 
It is a motive to entice multiplayer play unfortunately. Similar to the reason we can't see our NPC crew on the bridge, but we can see player crew..

That would be a valid argument if there was no option of two players flying from your ship in fighters...

Right now it's more like forcing you to nagg two players to have slightly less fun to maximize your fighter count.

Really FD, just enable two npcs .
 
The problem becomes when you start putting elite pilots in them.
Prior to odyssey and ED breaking the Lance guardian fighter which they still have not fixed, the one with the gauss cannons, 1 elite pilot in a single lance fighter can 1v1 pretty much any small ship outside of the vulture, and the only thing that stops it is the shield gen on it.

If you had 2 of those things attacking the same targets, oh, they could probably solo most medium ships at that point.
 
Okay, well then have the second "fighter" do something else other than wrecking noobs. Could be for example mining companion doing laser mining, or using pulse wave and scouting for rich asteroids. Something. Right now multicrew is borken and having two spots in hangar for nothing is nonsense...
 
That’s because this subject has come up numerous times over the years and been discussed at length. Please do try to search for these kinds of things ahead of time. A forum search for “multiple fighters”, my first attempt, showed several old discussions.

The person you responded to did not make this thread. This thread was necro'd from the past. Apparently a forum search WAS performed and discussion was added to it. Look at threads before criticising people for posting.

Create a new thread or necro an old one? Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

@SlickPBW If people aren't free to talk about stuff on a 7yo game there won't be much of a forum.
 
Artificial intelligence already controls our lives and frontier cannot put 2 fighters in the middle of 2025.... it is also time for them to manage the VRS and be UBER! LOL
