Two obvious QoL changes Elite desperately needs.

1) Allow dropping from supercruise to a location at higher speeds and with more distance. -> The current system is plain boring and full of unnecessary speed tweaks/extra loops. -> BORING.
2) Faster supercruise. -> Travelling anything beyond 10000 in supercruise is obnoxius waste of time that provides ZERO satisfaction -> BORING.

Anyone who even slightly defends the current system simply has too much time on their hands or takes pleasure from very wierd things.

Interesting concept, I would of liked to be able to jump to any planet or star instead of the main system star :( I also wonder along with neutron stars we may get stargates for want of a better word so we can jump half the galaxy distances or a selection of gates to cover certain locations in the galxy just a thought.

No thanks. That would remove large parts of the game. No to jumping to any planet or star, and a big no thanks to jump gates. What I would like though is making supercruise a bit more interactive. More stuff to do in SC would be enough for me.

Boring? Yes. Can it be done without a loop of shame? Yes. The current method for this is to simply adjust speeds to 50 - 75% within the blue and it'll do all the work for you... But I suspect based on the request, it's actually more of the following:

Can it be done if you're woolgathering and forgot to adjust your incoming speed? Yes. There's a small window of opportunity for this... One that I'm almost done trying to determine. I can get 1 out of every 5 at the present time and when I'm back in the bubble, I'll be sure to test it more. But you're even coming in hot when you drop from supercruise.

2) Faster supercruise. -> Travelling anything beyond 10000 in supercruise is obnoxius waste of time that provides ZERO satisfaction -> BORING.

There is clearly an algorithm for this... One that works on exponential increase and decrease. While I like the thoughts you're implying with this, I suspect that this won't curb the amount of cherry picking I still see when doing deep space exploring. Even with the re-introduction of blinking between stars in a binary (or bigger) system.

Anyone who even slightly defends the current system simply has too much time on their hands or takes pleasure from very wierd things.

So basically what you're assuming is that If people don't agree with you, they're... weird.

Challenge accepted.

I'll back you on this (more) providing you can prove without any shadow of doubt that this suggestion isn't the product of self-entitled whinging being produced from impatience and ill-education to the current system in place.

I go full throttle avoid the gravity wells and then hit the blue at about 6-7 seconds. It is very rare that I do the loop of shame. Get better.

While I agree that we could do with more to do on longer supercruise travels, they are purely optional. The game doesn't force you to travel that distance, so if you don't like it, don't do it.

vor a very brief time, we could jump between two close systems from station 2 station.
i tell you, THAT was boring - and broken, as you could circumvent like 100% of any chance to be interdicted.

to bad that since the fix for it, the navlock beacon for wings is uterly broken...

He just wants an easy button!

To the OP. Completely agree.

Waiting while a number ticks down is not gameplay.

The compromise here is that SC needs to be one of those things we can adjust through ship modification somehow. As it is, SC is one of the things that remains absolutely constant no matter which ship, what parts, or how much engineering is done. If there were things that could only be done in supercruise, or is supercruise was actually affected by by the quality or tuning of our FSD or thrusters, this wouldn't be so much an issue.

ED is largely a flight sim. The best parts of the game are the parts that make sense in accordance with that. If something is actually physically possible in game due to player choices and the consequences that come with them, then things like faster travel are much easier to accept and enjoy. If FDev just said "okay, supercruise is faster now" with no explanation, new tech, or anything, every player in the game would either be off or overjoyed...and then subsequently bored because they "finish" their game that much faster.

In it's current state, Supercruise is yet another feature with enormous potential for many gameplay styles, yet it is squandered on signal sources and interdictions (which are also a rather squandered feature.) As it is, there is next to no reason to fight an interdiction, which is a shame, considering the potential fun of the feature itself. If only it were actually influenced by the players' movements and not just thrown around completely randomly...if only there were as much benefit to fighting the interdiction and winning as there was to submitting and then jumping out...if only...

its boring tho. i have limited time to play a game, i would rather be doing things as opposed to watching a counter tick down along with my free time. give a buff to interdiction to allow pirates to still have a chance and i see no possible drawbacks.

Though, the 75% at 6-7 seconds approach is the slow and boring one. Reliable, and if you want to surface scan the planet, convenient, but it can be minutes slower than a good quality approach, as well as leaving you more open to interdictions.

It's possible to get there much faster and with much more interesting flight challenge by taking a fast spiral in and actively using gravity wells for braking, especially for planetary landings.

Requires skill, concentration and fast reactions to make the best of it, but even a poor spiral approach is faster than the straight-line version.

Then don't do it. Look I don't like a lot of activity in games I play, LOTRO has a rather annoying armor upgrade mechanic, I don't go around complaining on the forums so I can get the upgrade armor easier, I just don't bother with the upgrade. There are some things in ED I find undesirable, I don't go around demanding it be changed to make it easier, I either work around it or don't do it. The fact that I'm weird in no way means that the things that I enjoy doing should be nerfed for your your benefit, and vice versa. I would much rather FD spend their time adding new content and features than start micro-adjusting existing mechanics every time a player doesn't like it. Now there's no offense intended, you like different things than me, that's the way the world works, but adjustments to the game mechanics shouldn't be done in such a way they impact people who enjoy that mechanic because all you create then is another group of players demanding things be changed to better suit them.

If it's to far, don't go, as simple as that.

This is how I do it too. Depending on the ship (I find they're all slightly different when doing this), like my Python for example, I try and keep it at 4 secs, with the station near the top of the large viewport, but if it gets into 3 secs I have to put the station up into the top window (if you get me) until it gets back to 4 sec, and rinse-repeat. What I find is that if there is a CMDR in supercruise ahead of me, doing the typical straight line in aka 6-7 secs etc, I'll arc around, eventually seeing that CMDR coming towards me, and station, and I usually drop in before they do. The only way to fly.

p.s. I completely mess this up, probably 30% of the time :)

Yes - great way to make sure you get the medium pad at the outpost first.

The best bit is that even when completely messed up, it's still faster - I once really misjudged an approach to a high-G planetary base, and crashed out on the ring system. Waited 45 seconds for the drive to cool, back to supercruise, dive out through orbital cruise and still beat the commander who'd been ahead of me on system entry down to the port by a minute or so...

If the Devs improved the NPC ability to inderdict based on skill level, I wouldn't mind the blink jumping not being in the game. But given the currently over-easy method of that mini-game, I would prefer the blink jump instead.

no worries,
thargoid hyperdictions are already happening within the bubble.

its only a matter of time until they attack right away, without scanning.
and maybe, during the war, humanity will learn the technology to hyperdict too ;)

That's happening based on the caveat of interacting with them. Sure you can be hyperdicted out, however if you don't do anything neither will they. It becomes a Mexican Standoff that ends when you get out of range. I like that and would like to see when it happens outside the bubble.

I like the sentiment, I don't like the message. I've never been a fan of shooting first, asking questions later in an encounter with an unknown variable. It goes against wanting to seek out new life and new civilization. But, this is a game and I have to remind myself sometimes to lighten up.

Yeah, well, the problem with THAT is that to avoid boring supercruise mechanics, players must simply stop logging in.

Then again, D: OS2 is out now, Larian studios IS one of the good studios, and I have yet to read a bad review of the thing. They probably deserve my money more than the skins in the FDev store...
