Modes Two reasons i personally need PG and Solo

1) Wake up this morning, need to move to another system, so decide to get it done before work. Do the travel and docking while having breakfast. Naturally, at this time in a morning i'm in a zombie like state. I can just imagine if i was interdicted by another player while in such a state. I'd be dead before i even realized id been interdicted.

2) Beer. The cause of, and the answer to, all of life's problems! And i do tend to fly a bit while under the influence. Its all well and good telling people they should git gud, but telling that to someone who is on their 6th pint is like telling a brick to play the banjo. It ain't going to happen. Under the influence, even NPCs can be a real challenge.

Do you have reasons like this? What about those of you who mainly play open? Do you slip into PG/Solo when you are not fully compos mentis?

1) Due to the monopolistic nature of high-bandwidth ISPs, if Comcast is down or spotty I'd rather play solo than inflict my cell phone "connection" on other players.

2) Many of the events I'm interested in have been "Private Group Only." If there wasn't solo or private groups, I doubt these people would even be playing the game, let alone organizing fun events.

3) The knowledge that if the conditions in Open ever becomes too intolerable, I can bring all of my progress with me when I leave, is why I primarily play in Open in the first place.

2 things;

2) Beer. The cause of, and the answer to, all of life's problems!

I have the Homer Simpsons magnetic bottle opener that says this line on the radiator next to my PC :D
(radiator is disabled, as it's not needed with 3 PCs in a line - it gets warm in this room)

Do you have reasons like this?

Nope, don't need a reason to use the mode system.
Frontier gave it to us to use, so I use it.

I bounce between Mobius and solo for basically the same reasons. Sometimes i like seeing other folks around, even to the point of them getting in my way when ingressing/egressing a station. And when I don't want to see other folks, I play solo, which I tend to do the most.

Prior to this game, I was strictly single-player. And while sometimes it is fun to see/meet other players, I am still primarily a single-player type of guy. :)

1. Hi resolution screenshots.
2. Movie making, when I don't want random pilots messing up the scene.
3. Sometimes I just wanna be alone.
4. Blocked pads. Waiting in space for some forgetful Cmdr who happens to be on their number 2 in the toilet ain't no fun at all.
5. Group events when we don't want to be disturbed by random pilots.

Yeah, they're useful from time to time.

1...Player morons, cant be bothered with wasting my time on them so I dont.
2...Better screenshots.
3...I also fly quite regularly under the influence...I also dont drink alcohol fer that past 7ish years but cant say what the influence is...not with mods in the thread.
4...Im a lone wolf player by nature...sometimes I just cant be bothered with anyone like a self imposed exile.
5...With my mouth, it would only be a matter of time before I get meself banned...it really is that bad when Im under the mystery influence. Im one the most foul mouthed people I know.

I actually spend quite a lotta time in open, just switch to solo when the need arises...or a reason I deem is a need and with so many morons in open in the bubble, I tend to play almost exclusively in solo when in the bubble. I dont really care much what anyone thinks of how I play or why...the childish salty insults about me mother have no effect on me whatsoever...I know exactly what my mother is, I could tell ye stories about her love affair with vodka that would sound a lot worse than the imagination of 40 somethings with 12 year old mentalities...and they would be true stories.

But honestly, I just cant be bothered with that aspect of the game...the game I came from was a lot worse and it got boring years ago so maybe Im just getting old...whatever...modes exist and I use them...all good and Im happy enough with my game. Does get a bit lonely sometimes because I got almost zero friends in this game, but if it w2as a straight up choice of being a bit lonely or playing with idiots and manchildren...well...long live hotel california ^

Hey roots, good to hear from you since i know you to be a mainly open player who doesn't shirk from PvP.

When taking in the fine brews or suffering from the aftermath of said drinks I always go private/solo. Casual mode.

When sober = Open.

When sober = Open.

Drunk = Forums only
Half drunk = Solo
Normal (whatever that is) = Private Group
Feeling sociable = Mobius Group
In the mood for a laugh = Open
Testing my stealth ship = Open
Being an idiot in a T6 / Eagle = Open

My main reasons for flying in PG:

1: I'm an abnormally large kitten
2: I don't fly very gud
3: I prefer to only consort with like minded, like ability-ed (U ain't the only one drinking AA!) CMDR's.

I use solo if I'm doing evac missions in my conda and the big pad is already occupied in open. Solo is also good if my internet connection is acting up.

Otherwise it's Open, even when I'm drunk. Especially when I'm drunk, it's more fun (and sometimes expensive) that way.
