Two words: Night Vision

Human kind has had access to night vision technology since the 20th century. So why in 3302 do I have to fly my Asp explorer around the dark side of planets with little more that a pair of LED headlamps and pray they reveal that huge mounting rising in my path before I smack into it at a boost? Or how about driving my SRV with its pitiful illumination hoping a gaping chasm doesn't open up in front of me.
.
Why can't my highly advanced onboard ship systems can't be retrofitted with a state of the art night vision system? It can overlay my view that same way it generates them pretty orbit lines for me, with that lovely green night view like you see in all the old war movies from 2013. .
.
This should be standard equipment for explorers. There's no reason we should be sending our brave men and women out into the black with no more than luck to protect them from unseen dangers. Shame on you, Lakon Spaceways.

Several view modes would be nice.

-Radar enhanced vision (get a wireframe overlay to show you asteroids in the dark or a simulated ground view in the SRV)

-Thermal imaging on the ground - Se drones and SRV's at night

Night Vision + Silent running in the dark side of an asteroid belt waiting for pirates :D

Maybe include these additional modes in A, B, and C sensor packages. That would give players a reason to buy better than D sensors and help explain the additional weight.

I'm not an expert, but wouldn't this be basically doubling a lot of the work for the technical artists? Would you make an IR map the same way you'd make a light map?

Would be nice. Hell, we had sensor enhanced vision in old Heavy Gear games that gave you a wireframe of things when active which had it's drawback.

It is always Midnight in Space...

And suicide to fly in shadow of a planet with asteroid rings.

Always thought it would be cool to re-use the edge-highlighting effect from the loading screen, create an overlay to give you rough silhouettes in the darkness.

We dont even have good xenon lights in our SRV's just look at this

then turn on the lights in your SRV.

Ofc night vision is a good idea.

Just add an "overlay" over the viewscreen and filter out the textures, leaving out a wireframe that we can use different colours on depending on object.

Think old school Elite graphics

While they're at improving the lights in the SRV I hope they can also exclude the bottom ones from "high" mode because they light up the ground in your face so much that you gain nothing in the distance as you get blinded to the point where you can't see the slightly more illuminated terrain.
