Type 11 Explorer!!!

Please consider a Type 9 variant for exploration! I hate the look of the Type 10 with its ugly spoiler... here's what I'm thinking:
The Type 11 would look like the Type 9, visually (the Type 10 is so ugly), but with the hull and armour of the Type 10 for durability at the far reaches of the galaxy. Also give it the Class 7 FSD, of course. Keep the rest like the Type 9, as there is less (arguably no) need for weapons in an explorer. It should also have space for module reinforcements and at least 2 Class 8 Auto Field-Maintenance Units. The other module spaces could be used to house 2 - 3 Rovers and Fighter Hangers. It would be cool if it had at least 2 of each, so the 3 pilots in multicrew could land and explore planets together! :)

Why?

Conda, Cutter, Krait2, AspX, DBX.

These are your exploration ships! The conda and the DBX are amoung the highest jump ranges maxing out at almost 75Ly. The DBX is amazing as a taxi since its extremely cheap to call back and forth while the Conda offers extreme long ranges for deep space as well as having the opt space for AFMs, As does the Cutter with a marginal difference in jump range.

Your exclamation mark suggests I have offended you... I assume you are averse to change or new ideas?
I prefer the cockpit view of the Type 9/10 to the Anaconda, and the larger size means more versatility, as I mentioned above, so you could bring 2 (or more?) ship-launched fighters and rovers.

I agree with you. A better view for the Anaconda would be nice, even a sunroof and a few holes drilled in the floor will do, but I also tend to agree with BrianM. All ships can be used for exploring. I've used a Mamba, and it was some of my best hours spent in ED.

All ships have limitations. The Mamba has many. The Conda mainly the view. On the other hand, I like it's long nose when brawling pirates or mining opals. Btw, my Conda jumps 79 ly on a good day.

I like the T-10. I can't see the spoiler when I'm flying, and I don't give a flip about my appearances. I also like it's limitations. Mainly it's size when mining, but if you wanna haul, and carry guns, it's a mighty ship, once engineered. Not as versatile as the Conda, but different in an interesting way, and then it's got the view.

I would like a Mamba with 512T cargo slots, glass floor and a +100 ly jump range, but when I really want to enjoy ED, I take the "old" Mamba for a spin, and it's still a joy, even with it's many explorer limitations, and before I consider my time up in ED I will bring her to Sag A* ;)

@Florenus
Nah... Apart from pointing out that the T-10 is not as pretty as the Mamba (hehe), MKCBrown93 was only daydreaming. Don't you ever do that ?

@RELSPI
I've only read two of your posts, but don't worry "kiddo", you'll make it far in life ;)

A true explorer ship should look NOTHING like current ships.

It should be fragile. Very fragile.
It should LOOK like an exploration ship. (Examples below)
Allow us to equip HUGE sensors allowing long range scans.
Be limited to a very small shield module.
Allow AFMU to repair the power plant whilst landed and powered down on a planetary surface.
Be very limited in power supply to prevent wild builds with weapons or supercharged shields.
It should turn like a brick even with class A thrusters.
Current max jump ranges are fine.

I am certain that this will all fall on DEAF EARS.
Management will give us another boring unimpressive box.
Be sure you will be able to purchase a spoiler in the Frontier store.

Conda has a terrible view from the bridge, even in VR (I have to get up and walk to one of the windows. All the other ships have way too little internals. Have taken all the ships you have mentioned across the galaxy, would take a T9 over them any day.

@Op - That T-10 spoiler is hideous, but the ship makes a very good explorer, am currently out near SagA* in mine, then enroute to Colonia then Beagle, it carries everything you need, including mining gear, whilst retaining an amazing view from the Bridge.

Personally I'd like to see a huge version of the Krait, same type of bridge, but a proper behemoth for those ultra long deep space trips.

@ick, that looks like a deep space megaship, I think we would all like one of those :)

EDIT: Jeez, just read Browns reply to Florenus.. Edit your post, completely out of order. That deserves a ban

...and, I'm just making a suggestion for a new exploration ship that I think would be cool. I didn't understand why people are so against making a suggestion.

The Internet is literally closer to the Wild West than any movie has ever even gotten close to. When you enter here you enter the saloon. I also wish the 6shooters wouldn't hang so loose. However, they do ;)

It would be cool if you would be able to relax a little and not take everything personally.
I don't think people here have anything against making a suggestion, although some might have different ideas that they might want to share, or discuss. I don't think it takes anything from your original proposal whether they agree with it or not, although ideas like "I want this ship, but better at something else" are more like letters to Santa than worthwhile improvement suggestions.

As for me, I'm a T-10 pilot (as my sig should indicate) and I actually like how it looks - even the spoilers (for me it looks like space version of WW2 era flying fortress - like B24 f.ex)

so my only reaction was to jokingly imitate childish name calling, when someone repeatedly insults my ride (it's always depressing when you must explain the joke).

The looks of the Type-10 ARE pretty heinous, I must agree! If the spoiler served as a thruster strut, or if about four medium hard points popped out of the bottom of it (missile rack, anyone?) That would be one thing, but as is the design is pretty insane. Some of the ships in this game are a bit odd. Ever notice how the Krait and Mk2 look better... Upside down? It's as if one guy did the models, then handed them off to the village idiot who didn't know which way was up. I still love my Krait Mk 2 though... ;)

I'd like to see a Type-11 Multipurpose Heavy. Armor hardness more in line with the Federal ships (a bit lower than Type-10, but in line with a combat ship), Type-9 body style, one extra large hard point dead center top and bottom for turrets, Millennium Falcon style. Slightly smaller internals due to the extra weapons, improved power plant, thrusters, FSD, maaaaaybeeee... two more utilities?
Would sell for about the same as a Type-10. I would love it!

Explorers need attractive ships because they take a lot of selfies. They're a pretty vain group of people. Some of them must have coiffed hairstyles and probably wear aviator glasses and unbutton their shirts down at least four buttons.

I personally don't think the T9 is that attractive either. My choice for Explorer vessel would be something like the Clipper or Cutter if it had enough jump range and enough of a fuel tank to get me around. In fact I'm pretty sure the cutter would make a pretty decent exploring ship. It would be expensive but it might be worth it. Can't get much prettier than that thing when it's painted up right and it's just been through the detail shop. Plus you can put a lot of modules in there and it's even got a decent view from the cockpit.

Of course I still think the AspX has the best view in the game.

O think an ultimate exploration ship shouldn’t be big as a Type 9 or Anaconda. It should have lots of small size modules instead of bigger ones, should be lightweight as possibe.

Anaconda works because it has magical lightweight hull.

Yeah, the AspX is still king in my book, maneuverable, great view, great heat management, fantastic range. Wish it didn't look like a pancake with wings.

Maybe an Eagle Mk3... Full bubble cockpit with minimal struts in front so you can look up, down, whatever instead of fighter style canopy, and enhanced jump capability and heat management? Would have light weaps, maybe 2 small HPs, and very low base hull and hardness.

Can FDev be bribed to add features?

I use an Anaconda because it’s the only ship capable of equippinng all the tools I want and still has a good jump range. Phantom outclasses AspX in every aspect imo, AspX feels obsolete.

Maybe an explorer variant of a limpet controller? Which has research, recon, repair, collecting features of class 1d’s of each and occupies a class 4 slot.

If only FDev would play their own game

Personally, I'd like to see an Alliance big ship, comparable to Conda, Cutter and Vette. Since I like the style the Chieftain has, perhaps something similar? Move the engine pods to the rear, have them stacked on top of each other, kind of like a stubby X-Wing setup. Enlarge and elongate the body of the ship. Have two separate canopies, one under the bow (pilot), one on top (co-pilot), or a single broad "hammerhead" canopy. Small front engine pods for braking and landing. Fighter bay.

The ship could be reasonably defensive, ie. tough hull (less than Vette, though) and reasonable speed for its size. Suitable for diplomatic missions, combat support and exploration. Jump range close to the Conda.

You, Sir, are absolutely correct. Want to see my chest hair?

An exploration ship needs to look pretty, and a fat manta ray is not. If the Cutter would have better jump range, explorers would definitely use it. With the FSD boosters, some actually do use it, or the Beluga.
