Type 11 Explorer!!!

Change the T10 spoiler to outboard engines.
Boom knockoff Enterprise explorer, that has appeal.

Give it two powerplants and two FSD (that's what's in the nacelles, justifying their existence) for robust exploring.

Doesn't need to beat Anaconda for jump range, 50ly or so, but give it enormous fuel tanks.

Please consider a Type 9 variant for exploration! I hate the look of the Type 10 with its ugly spoiler... here's what I'm thinking:
The Type 11 would look like the Type 9, visually (the Type 10 is so ugly), but with the hull and armour of the Type 10 for durability at the far reaches of the galaxy. Also give it the Class 7 FSD, of course. Keep the rest like the Type 9, as there is less (arguably no) need for weapons in an explorer. It should also have space for module reinforcements and at least 2 Class 8 Auto Field-Maintenance Units. The other module spaces could be used to house 2 - 3 Rovers and Fighter Hangers. It would be cool if it had at least 2 of each, so the 3 pilots in multicrew could land and explore planets together! :)

I think a new large deep space explorer with superior visibility and excellent jumprange would be very cool.
I would prefer this to be a new ship design though and not a T9 variant.
I think the T9 is too freighter-like in appearance.

Does anybody know the Sisters of Eve ship designs?
I think those kind of designs would be awesome for a scientific exploration vessel.

It could even be a new Huge class of ships that cannot enter stations, but instead needs to use a shuttle to dock, or a new external docking mechanic.

Personally, I'd like to see an Alliance big ship, comparable to Conda, Cutter and Vette. Since I like the style the Chieftain has, perhaps something similar? Move the engine pods to the rear, have them stacked on top of each other, kind of like a stubby X-Wing setup. Enlarge and elongate the body of the ship. Have two separate canopies, one under the bow (pilot), one on top (co-pilot), or a single broad "hammerhead" canopy. Small front engine pods for braking and landing. Fighter bay.

The ship could be reasonably defensive, ie. tough hull (less than Vette, though) and reasonable speed for its size. Suitable for diplomatic missions, combat support and exploration. Jump range close to the Conda.

Oh yes, a large Chieftain type explorer would be awesome. It should have a more open cockpit design.
I like your suggestions.

After having spent 25 years of my life working with aesthetics, art, design and graphics, I can honestly say that there are no one who can actually define what makes something look good. You might think they know, but try and ask them about a solid definition of pretty or ugly, and they will become very quiet.

The T-10 spoiler is an eye turd because it doesn't make sense. And maybe it's annoying passing the mail slot. We will never agree on which ships look great. That is almost completely subjective, and the objective part is ruled by stuff we know little about, even though Neuroaesthetics is a quickly developing field of science nowadays.

^ This. Looks is all subjective but you can fairly judge an appearance if it has unnecessary and/or illogical features on it.

I'm currently in my Phantom out with DW2, wish the cockpit view was a bit better though but I absolutely love my krait taxi lol. At any rate, when I come back to the bubble I may try building out some more explorer style ships, but yeah, I support this message. we need more large ships

I don't know the Sisters of Eve ships, but I love the Constellation Aquila from Star Citizen... I also like the idea of a large exploration ship with a detachable section, which includes the cockpit and rover bays, that would be separated and used to land on planets... kind of like the MISC Endeavor (again, a Star Citizen ship).
