Type 6 to 7 upgrade?

So I have almost banked enough CR's to ditch the type 6. I manage around 1.2M CR an hour in the type 6. I have a route that takes in some outposts so the first question I have is will a Type 7 get on a medium pad? It seems to suggest yes in the description.

Also what is the earning potential of the Type 7?

Thanks in advance.

The type 7 has 216 cargo shielded (232 unshielded) so has about double the trading earning potential of the type 6.

It does need a large pad though - so no more outposts.

Type 7 uses a large pad.

Insurance costs on my Type 7 are 8million, and fittings are... pricey... :)

Take that into consideration before deciding ;)

I'd suggest keeping the Type 6 until you're entirely happy with the Type 7 (ie... own both).

More fittings, tougher, potential greater jump distance and of course double the cargo space.

However the l9 is Large and cannot dock at an outpost. Finding good trade between Stations is not as easy as between a station and outpost so you might want to consider that before swapping your l6.

I am currently in an Asp saving for L7 but I think I will want to keep the asp when I get there (as it is a really good all rounder until I can afford a Python.

Good advice. Thanks.

I just upgraded to Type-7 and am having massive overheating problems with it, mainly on charging up to jump. So, beware - it's not as functional as the type-6 in this regard.

Type-7 needs a good powerplant, the stock one overheats too much. It's a great ship and money earner once you kit it out correctly. 15 minutes of trading n a Type-7 earns me enough for a brand new type-6

After some of the hassles I ran into, including the heat problem stated above, I recommend about a 5-7 million allowance in addition to the 17.5 purchase price for racks, better FSD, power dist., etc.. Don't forget to account for the .5-1 mil buyback and 2 mil capital you'll need to fill it with cargo. It's a bit of adjustment to get in and out of stations at first, so don't try to run it without shields for a while (I don't think you should at all in this one).

Enjoy your new ride!

Just traded my 6 for a 7 and so far enjoying the $$... I upgraded the cargo and FSD, yes it overheats but not to the point of damage so it's not a big deal. I plan on just trading away in a little niche I've found.. As above, making close to a mill every 15-20 mins. It's a worth while upgrade :)
My insurance is only 700k or there abouts... fuels relatively cheap and repairs not over the top.

Insurance of 8 million, what?? What sort of platinum and Gold parts do you have? Do your thrusters work by shooting out gold bullion?

Insurance is 700,000 cr. without major upgrades. A class FSD is 5.5m cr. jump range is slightly lower than the L6, but A for A FSD they're close around 16ly I think. Large pads means no more outposts, which does hurt a bit. When I return from vacation my trade route might be all dried up as there were some other ships there, but I was making 220k one Way and 180k the other for an even cool 400k loop. Took 10 minutes cause the stations were close to the stars.

Some goods cost almost 2 million to fill the hold, plus that 700,000 insurance, so make sure you save enough for that before plunging.

Also, she does not handle well, and going from an L6 to an L7 you will be scraping the top of the letterbox until you get the hang of it so keep the shields.

My insurance cost is 1.2 mil for a type 7 dunno what type parts that dudes fitting. Maybe he has a type 9?
Anyway it's a good ship but make sure you have at least 20 mil before you upgrade to it.
Im making around 2-2.5 mil an hour depending on what run im doing and interruptions so you will make back the 20 mil in a day or 2.

I wouldnt even think of getting a T7 with less than 22.5 mil, need atleast FSD B class and rest D and you need enough to cargo and insurance so 22.5 will cover it.

I upgraded a little too early. The result was that I was making credits slower than in my T6 before for a few hours. So be patient and make sure to have at least 22-25M in total before upgrading, as other CMDRs suggested.

Once the T7 is decently outfitted it's a real joy. And yes.. when passing the letterbox stick to the "floor". The cockpit is very low on this thing and by the time I realised this, I was beginning to think the overheating FSD had fried my brain and killed my ability to fly because I was not able to pass the letterbox without scraping my paint off for about a day.. ;-)

Don't forget about the ASP. It's a good middle step - it has better handling and the cargo difference may look small on paper, but it can add up to 300K/min to the profits, also due to the fact you can rotate, approach and dock faster.

I actually switched from ASP to Type 7 with about 19 mil in assets and I had a bit of a tough time at first, but I actually found it fun to work my way up again. I barely had any money left to cover the 800k stock insurance and another measly 100k for trading. I had to sell off a couple of big cargo bays to optimize my cargo capacity and fill it up fully. Doing that also helped with weight reduction, because the stock FSD is seriously weak - I had to do 9 jumps on my first two runs before I could afford a D5 FSD which halved that down to 4 jumps. For heat management I just turn slightly away from the star, set throttle to full and the heat quickly drops to 60% and when I hit FSD it goes up to 120% but it's nothing serious since no damage is done.

8 Million? Mine was worth 800k, are you sure? Overupgraded or what?^^ You really dont need a so much better powerplant, i had one with D Heating Handling, its completly enough, there is only one expensive thing, the FSD for 5.1 Million, buying (in my opinion) a Type 7 before you have "about" 26 - 27 Million credits doesnt make so much sense, i learned that the hard way trough the not existent 10% discount in the Founders system.. it depends on the routes you have, you still need enough money to buy 232 of your tradegoods that are most expensive plus, i prefer max Jumprange before im going to upgrade.. for me everything under 15Ly is an absolute no go, preferable about 18 Ly (which also depends on the routes you have again...) it simply sucks and is time consuming (in the long term) to have to do 1 or even 2 Jumps more after a upgrade
