I already did. I found a little neat place to mine at a reasonable range (so players won't bother me hehehe) with pristine metallic reserves.
For the OP: Use prospectors. Just do it. Come close to an asteroid, shoot your lazors, see what pops up, if it's something valuable in a good % then shoot the prospector, will double the total yield of the asteroid getting you so much for each good one you find. I'll give you an example, in the sortie I just made I found an asteroid that when I shot at it popped a 45% platinum chunk. Once my eyes stopped rolling and I came back to my senses I immediately sent a prospector to that asteroid doubling the ammount of chunks I could mine. Had I not had any prospector limpets I'd been a very, very sad panda
Drop one class 4 cargo rack and put in a class 3 collector limpet controller. Allows for 2 limpets to work simultaneously, and believe me, at the rate you'll be popping out chunks just one takes too long. You'll end up spending a couple minutes close to an already emptied asteroid waiting for the lone limpet to collect everything. 2 of them collect everything much quicker.
Class A shields is overkill and is straining your budget. Drop to class B, with that booster is more than enough and will save you a ton of money.
Use 2 mining lasers. It makes a noticeable difference because you'll work through asteroids much faster and mining is an activity where time efficiency matters a lot.

I have a different setup than this but following those guidelines pointed avobe I made a T-6 single run of 37 palladium, and around 24 platinum and 7 gold just one hour ago reasonably near the CG place (a system I found -and which I won't name

, don't want it swarming with players

-) with pristine metallic reserves. Took me 40 minutes. You can guess the profits

.
