Type 7 Hull Extremely Weak

Just a caution to anyone purchasing a Type 7 to go trading any time soon. While it is a fantastic ship, its hull seems to be incorrectly implemented. It can barely take a bump without shattering to bits (and this is at low speeds). This is seen in the fact that its repairs are oddly cheap (Hull @ 25% Repair is less than 6000cr, odd for a 17.6m cargo ship.)

Had a type-7 for three weeks, never saw the issue you describe, the ship is a tank. You are right about the repair costs, insanely cheap.. A slight scratch on my clipper runs into the thousands.

The bulkhead upgrades are mega expensive, 6.988 mill for alloy and 15.725 mill for Military, also add a lot of weight, 32 and 63 t respectively.

(The reactive are over 41 mill)

I put my money into A4 shields, they take the knocks and scrapes no problem.

Running a type 7 now, Its hard to say, but dont forget you have a LOT of tonnage, so theres a lot of inertia that will keep you smashing into walls if you botch a landing. That said, yore right about repair costs, theyre pretty silly. Ive had my hull down to 25% after ramming it into another ship, the entire repair was like 5000 CR when I was expecting it to run into 100's of thousands.

Who said he is running without shields? The type 7 is probably the only ship where running with shields is an easy choice, they only take 7% of your cargo space.

@ Shintai
Why silly???
Just a choice 😇
Personally, running a T 7 without a shield to maximize cargo space. Am I greedy? YES! It requires being handy at maneuvering in station and avoiding interdictions. I'm playing Solo though.
The added difficulty is fun for me. Just my humble opinion...

Oh I've lost shields plus 95% of my hull by hitting the toaster rack coming in too fast. I don't even mean boost speeds, but fast flying. She is NOT a tank.

Yes, I know that I need to slow it down and I am probably the bane of the station with the traffic controllers saying "oh great, THIS guy again." But I've yet to lose my ship to the station, whether toaster rack or the spike, so I keep doing it :D

Thinking back I should have ditched the shields on my T7, costs are so low it doesn't matter about scrapes. The ship is probably the hardest in game to get through the docking port, but after a while of practice it becomes second nature.

Well that just sounds like crazy flying if you did that much damage!, it's a 450T ship empty, what do you think will happen if you hit the station at speed :) Anywhere near a station my max speed is 50% gear up 75% gear down. It's a heavy freighter, what's the rush? I have my Eagle & Cobra for crazy weekend flying.

Fly safe!

Those big cargo ships are a lot like the big cargo ships you see on the ocean. When you watch them come into port and dock, they go painfully slow for a reason. It is absolutely amazing how much damage gets done to a 1000 foot freighter going less than 3 knots when they hit the dock wrong.

Physics is a cruel mistress, and those large cargo ships have a LOT of mass moving around!

Unshielded Asp is pretty weak as well...boosted one time too close to the station a moment ago spilling a load of gold all over the place :) You quickly learn to dock like a feather though with all the repair costs.

4 pips to shields, boost from 3Km out, hug the bottom of the letterbox and then slam on the anchors before you hit the far wall - all the while hoping you don't meet your doppelgänger coming the other way!

When you are looking at 3M credits for a buy back and cargo loss, the profits you might make from running without a shield just aren't worth it. The Type 7 handles incredibly well once you get the hang of it, and it is a bit of a beast in combat with flight assist off (as a few Pythons, Clippers and Dropships will attest to) and a set of shield banks.
