Type 7... is it worth it ?

Well its costs a fortune compared for what you get more ( what is the max cargo btw ? ) over the Type 6 and it comes also with the huge letdown that once you in it Outpost are no longer your business.

Am I missing here something ?

I'm running it at only 192t. That's with shield, shield cells and fuel scoop.

Didn't have an issue finding routes with stations only... and for missions requiring docking at outposts i have my Asp to help out ;)

You have to adapt to the fact that you can't dock at outpost. So small or anarchy systems will be a problem for you. In terms of trading you should find systems with stations quickly. But if you have "other" business to do in small systems (illegal goods, helping factions) your Type7 has to stay in dock.

I'll get my Type7 after christmas, but will keep a Cobra as secondary ship available, I later upgrade it to an ASP.

I really really like what Frontier has done with large ships. Bigger ships are not better all the time. Keeps small ones more interesting.

In my space there is only one Alliance outpost in the best extraction system (others are Fed or dictator/pirate), so I will have a problem continuing that trade route. But I always found good spots in the past, this will only be a temporary issue.

I'm running my type 7 at 216 T. I have a trade run that earns me around 1300 credits per tonne. I usually get close to 300, 000 credits per journey. Yes, the type 7 is expensive, but right now it's the only intermediate step between hauler/asp and a Type 9. At 300k per trip it's paying for itself quite quickly though :) i like it

The Type 7 is ABSOLUTELY worth it... IF... you are willing to put in the time to put it to full use. The obvious up-side is the increased cargo, but it has numerous cons as well. Short story... if you can find a pair of high-population stations to trade between, the extra cargo space is pure profit.

As for small outposts... while it is true that you cannot trade with them any more... that's not actually a huge problem. Small outposts have much lower supply/demand that will deplete fairly quickly when you begin trading with them for any prolonged period of time. High population stations usually have much larger supply/demand which leads to a consistent price when you do finally find two of them that complement each other.

It is worth it.

You can have 216 cargo + shields (or get I think another 64 cargo and leave out the shields) so you easily double what you can do in a lakon 6.

The problem though is that you are then restricted to stations and can no longer use outposts (since the 7 uses large pads) that makes finding good routes much harder and obviously restricts your trading choices as well!

But if you find one you can double what you can do with the 6 and still have shields!

The Type-7 is more than worth it. Finding lucrative trade routes between large stations is not difficult, I was making millions daily. The running costs for the ship are very low, same with upgrades. It also has a massive fuel tank for long trips.

Just bought an Imperial Clipper with all the earnings from my Type-7, it's configured to hold more Cargo - 242T without shields. The running & upgrade costs on the clipper are huge compared to the Lakon. The Clipper's an awesome ship to fly, but the Type-7 is a real workhorse and money maker.

Thanks for the insightful replies, whats the jumprange you get with it ?

I figured that I only need about 90-100 cargo to do the rarity runs across the galaxy. Half of it is filled near Lave and the rest on the way to the imperial space where I dump it all and repeat. That nets ~1.5 mil in a couple of hours if you do it on Asp with its long jump range. The maximum one way profit per item I saw was about 1.1k and it usually just lasts for several jumps before the prices on both ends start going down/up. May be you guys found a better way to make profit of the big cargo somehow, beating the rarity trades?

no problem with running a 1500/1000/500 three stop route where two stops are in the same system...

One thing I don't like about the Type-7 is that there doesn't seem to be a reason to keep one. The sole role of the ship seems to be making money for a different ship. I'd like if it were changed in some way to be a little more desirable. For instance, perhaps if the T7 were made a little more dangerous. It could be the more fight-capable, but less cavernous alternative to the T9. As it stands, if you've got the money for a T9, I don't see why anyone would ever want a T7. Same limitations, less capability on all fronts.

well, it's MUCH cheaper... and you can squeeze it past any NPC ship in the letterbox.... besides a T9 ;)

Check the Python, not a large ship and can dock at outpost and has more of a combat aspect.

I don't like the concept of obsolete ships too...but it's not easy to do this for freighters that are defined by their cargo capacity. You could limit the Type9 even further to only dock at Orbis or make it significallly slower e.g. smaller jump range. Difficult topic.

I've had to wait for federal dropships to leave the pad at an industrial outpost before I could dock so was assuming the Type 7 could dock there as well. Seems odd - the dropship is pretty big. Oh well.

All large ships are excluded from small outposts at the moment so getting a type 7 depends on how you are willing to trade. Do you want to have to double check every new station to make sure you can land there or stick to trade routes you know landing wont be a problem. You will also be limited with mission runs and again will have to check if you can run the ones you think you can. Type 7 = more checking and simple trading for the time being at least.

For me my type 7 is a money making ship, running between two stations I know I can land on that holds high trades each way. Once I have topped up on credits to afford new toys I can then jump back into my ASP, fit the toys and go run missions, explore or hunt bounties.

With a max cargo of 232 (I think, I run with less than max) you will soon have whatever mission running ship you like as well as the type 7 as a solid trading ship. Why have 1 ship when 2 is much better?
