Type 9 Cutter Pictures

Hello Commanders,

I had a big surprise yesterday when my Cutter merged with a Type 9!

I decided to take it into the hangar and see if they were still joined and whether it'd show in the Outfitting screens:

I thought it was fascinating to compare the two. We see the type 9 is the same width, slightly lower but much shorter than the Cutter.

One thing I thought was that it goes to show the Type 10 can be quite a bit bigger than the Type 9 and still fit on the pads ;)

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Certainly makes it apparent why the Cutter manages to have more cargo space than a T9.

As for the possible dimensions of any new ship, I rather like the "frisbee" shape of most Lakon ships so I'd prefer it if they kept that, even at the expense of stuff like cargo space.
You can't really make a T9 longer without turning it into a mutant Anaconda/Corvette and I'd rather they didn't do that.

Hopefully, the T10 will (basically) be a T9 with bigger engines, a couple of huge hardpoints and the core slots to make it all viable.
Anything more than that will be a bonus but that'd be enough for me.
But I do hope it still looks a bit like a frisbee.

After sitting at the station for about half hour and chatting with people in Open, I was leaning toward the idea of perhaps an elongated Type 9 - like the same style as a type 9 but more rectangle than square (and yeah Frisbee as well, all in theme!).

That's cool. I never really appreciate the size of the Cutter but this makes it crystal clear. The thing is huge. It's a pity the paint jobs of the two ships are so different; with two dark liveries it might have looked a bit like an SR-71.

This might not be quite as impressive, but I will see your two ships and raise you a third. From an earlier thread, I give you the Faulcon DeLakon Type 79aconda:

hahaha! Awesome! :D

If the Cutter is "Constantinople" does that make the T-9 "Istanbul"

haha, or possibly seen as it's the other half - I guess it could be a less glamorous version of Rome!

That middle picture looks so ugly it could be something out of SC (but shhh ... I didn't mention that game) :D

Eh, the perspective makes it look as if the nacelles on the Cutter could hold an appreciable amount of cargo. I'd say the "wing" space on the T9 approximately equals the volume gained by the Cutter's length.

And remember that the cylindrical fuselage of the cutter makes for less efficient storage. Add on the significantly larger internal modules of the Cutter...

I've debated the T-9/Cutter balance to death before. I'd be happy with a T-9 that was better at trading and a T-10 that had a specialized niche.

Some of these merged combos look awesome and should be made into ship models immediately.

Yeah I thought they looked cool too :D. Just a shame I couldn't match up the colours with mine. I forgot to link this earlier but here was an album I created of the screenshots (20 in all) https://imgur.com/a/TNT1I

Thanks again to Jack Schitt for the Type 79aconda.

Has anyone else any merges?

Did I tell you about my Beluga that gets 65Ly? What? No, I don't see anything odd about the back of that ship.... :)

Yeah, I had some fun with that a few months back, the mergers have been happening quite a lot recently. Glad to see the Cutt-9 or the Type 9tter made an appearance. Scale is great too as others have said.

TBH, as a fan of the T9 and the Cutter, I'd be more than happy if the T9 had the same cargo capacity as the Cutter and the Cutter was just a better ship in other respects (agility, speed, weapons etc).

I guess the dev's always feel the need to up the ante though, so it's always going to be "new and improved" vs "old and inferior".

If the T10 is pretty similar to the T9 in terms of slots but has better weapons and core internals I think it will make for a good alternative to the current "big 3", especially if it's price can make it more attractive than an Anaconda in a time when many people are going to find themselves facing re-buys after NPC combat for the first time in years.

True. I just hope the T-10 comes out in 2.4.

I'd buy it. Some of these impromptu kitbashes created by landing pad sharing bugs are actually pretty cool. My favorite is still the Clipper/Orca.

Hmm. A bit OT, but Jayridium's post doesn't show the link on my screen (even if I highlight the text, so it's not a colour issue) but it does show it if I quote the post, as Evolution did. It's also in the page's source code.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be? I'm using the Elite Orange (Fixed) theme on Chrome.

(I have +1'd Jayridium's post anyway, but I wouldn't even have seen the image were it not for Evolution quoting it).
