Ships Type 9 Heavy setup

I have set up a Type 9 Heavy for trading an community goals.
It flies like a barn and steers like a cow, and it sometimes headbutts the station on entering or leaving.
But it has a huge cargo space.
I have fitted some weaponry, but i think it's better to try to escape interdictions.
Here's a Coriolis link: Type 9
Any tips or hints?

Not bad. Some suggestions:
Get a c4 gfsb. Put a SLF hangar in the remaining c5 slot. Get a point defense and a extra booster.

Here is my fat cow I build over the years. It is been a long while since I have flown it:

Yea, if you like to fight the pirates, get a SLF in the size 5 slot and move the Guardian Booster in the size 4 slot.
Also get another shield bootser, preferably thermal engineered and a point defense turret in an underside utility slot so it can cover the cargo hatch
Shields should be reinforced, g3 at least and the 2 shield boosters one thermal and one heavy duty / resists.

OP, be aware that, in my experience, as your combat rank increases into "Dangerous", there will come a time when escaping interdictions will become impossible in the T-9.

I used a T-9 for along time for the same things you want to use it for. But I've had to switch to using a heavily engineered python for my hauling. (though I also play in Open nearly exclusively these days, so...)

In the meantime, enjoy your T-9, it can move lots of cargo...

Oh and I don't recommend either Auto Launch or Auto Dock...just fly slow and steady and you'll be able to land her OK...

Why such a large distributor?
Personally I'd go for the smallest one that can still boost.
I'd D grade the sensors.
Shield wise I use a low pwr lo draw biweave with A grade thermal resistant boosters.
Certainly Cmdrs interdicting will be a case of submit & hi wake, but non-mission NPC interdictions can be dealt with. I use a pair of gimbaled burst lasers in the shoulder mounts and seeker missiles on the lower mounts. FA off makes the handling easier and less sluggish. A docking computer generally handles the landings and launches but be ready to take over if it's in a queue.

The Type 9 still needs some work, i see.
I might even trade it in for a Type 10, or an Anaconda.
I also need to gather some engineering materials.
Recently i bought a second hand Logitech X52, now i am making myself familiar with the controls.
It certainly beets mouse and keyboard.
For now i took out the Python to do some rank missions and shoot some pirates.

When you can afford it, outfit a Cutter for trading and don’t look back.

Edit: and I recommend ditching the weapons. They will just encumber your ship, and maybe even make you think you should be engaging in combat in that thing. You shouldn’t.

A cutter would be nice, but i am not far enough up the imperial tree.
I might fit a ship launched fighter, never tried that.

Take some ion mines with reboot engineering.

I had my T-9 outfit with a bunch of mine layers. Both Ion and Reverb cascade.
Ultimately it was a bad idea.

T-9 is made for trading / hauling and wasting time pretending you're flying a combat ship instead of focusing onto minimizing the interruptions so you're able to reach your destination faster is usually the better path.

My Trader / Hauler Cutter, doesnt even has shields. Just 4x PDT and a couple of heat sinks and all my interactions with pirates (if i decide to submit instead of fight the interdiction) is to pop a heat sink, boost and wake out as soon the FSD gets back online.

Thanks all.
So I'll ditch the weapons, save for some point defence, upgrade the thrusters some more, and run away if i get interdicted.
See how that works:)

Well, just make sure you win every interdiction.

If you are not 100% sure of winning that interdiction, just submit - select a hyperspace destination and highwake if you are masslocked and cannot low wake.
Make sure you have a solid build with strong shields and hull - so you have the time to high wake.

Because with a T-9 you cannot outrun any pirate and since T-9 has a laughable masslock factor, a krait mk2 or a python will be able to masslock you, not to mention the other heavy ships like anaconda or the vette which would be faster than your T-9
