Type-9 Shield Advice

Hey all,

I recently got my T-9 to a laden jump range above 20ly. I know it's a foolish arbitrary standard, but I want to keep it.

Most of this came from a god roll on my FSD, but I also downsized my PP, switched to 7D thrusters, engineered everything that could be lightweight, and dropped my 2 G5 Heavy Duty A0 shield boosters. Right now I've got 1 G5 Res Aug A0 SB and 2 vanilla SB's. I'm also just about maxed out on power, too.

So here's my conundrum: Is it worth taking a large hit to thermal efficiency (overcharging the PP more) to run 3 resistance augmented SB's? Should I roll heavy duty on E0 SB's, without going above ~3 tons each? Won't I get diminishing returns on the 3 resistance augmented boosters anyway?

Any advice would be appreciated. (Mods, feel free to move this to the Engineering subforum at your discretion.)

What do you need it for? If it's to evade other players it's certainly worth it. I have a Battlecow with 1400 worth MJ of prismatic shields - I managed to keep the PP overcharge "just" to grade 3, but even then I go over 80% heat when jumping, and that's relatively far from a star.

I would go with something like this for combat:

You can use this shield build with any kind of build though (trade/blockade runs/bounty hunting/etc). The beauty of it is that the regen is so fast that all an NPC needs to do is run out of WEP for a few secs and you almost don't even need the SCBs. It can take quite a lot of punishment, even going toe to toe with the biggest baddest ships you'll find in a high CZ.

Sorry, I should have clarified: it's a trader. I do fly in Open often, even at CGs. But I've yet to actually be interdicted by another player. I've been able to low wake and charge a jump if anyone follows me.

I don't have access to prismatic shields. I'm mostly looking for input on the shield boosters. Is it worth running very warm to stack resistances? Can I get a decent MJ boost per ton with smaller boosters?

And I'm not switching to a 'conda for trading. Flying the T-9 is literally a hill I'm willing to die on.

For open play, my Type-9 has been seen fitted with a 7A shield generator, 3X 0A boosters, and an 8B SCB.

It has absorbed rather a lot of fire, and survived. However, a CMDR fitted with Reverberating Cascade weapons could probably see explosions in short order.

The best way to outfit a Type-9 is to sell it and buy an Anaconda.

true.

The only advantage of the T-9 is that it costs about 200 Million less to outfit in trade mode and can use a C8 biweave for super fast regen. However, the shielded cargo capacity is nearly identical, and the jump range, shield strength, weaponry, module protection, boost speed, agility, hull are all weaker to MUCH weaker on the T-9.

Still love the T-9 though, mostly for the amazing (wasted?) cockpit, and the feel of flying a massive-behemoth that actually feels like a massive behemoth ship. Really hope they use the reuse the T9 cockpit on the T10 defender, or something similarly awesome. :)

I'd rather they fix the T-9; it looks like the Defender will have a different niche.

Anyway, is it worth losing a lot of heat efficiency to run G5 res aug shield boosters? Is it possible to get a lighter shield booster to give a better MJ boost than OA boosters? Ie, more than 20% boost for under 3 tons?

No need to worry about heat unless you are going exploring with it, for trucking the T9 will be fine even if he runs a bit hot.

or better yet a Cutter, that's when I sold my T9....

When I did own one it had minimal shields.

10000 percent true. At this juncture the Type 9 is just a stepping stone to the mighty Cutter, which outclasses it in every single conceivable way.

The type10 may hange things though.

A D-rated Cargoconda costs about the same as a decent spec T-9. But the Conda can easily have 800-1000+ MJ with just a 4A shield and some boosters. Longer legs means fewer total jumps and fewer interdictions.

The type 10 is going to be a multi pew keelback, at least that's what I've gleaned from the live streams so far.

I !oved my type 9 but sold it as it wasn't the best at any one particular role. Shame really...
