Type 9 with Fighter Bay, is it a Bigger, Badder Keelback?

Greetings Commanders, I have enough right now (and im sitting at Ising Dock in 109 P) to buy either a Python or a Type 9, I had a Keelback and really liked the extra defense and "bite" the Fighter Bay allows, and so my question is this: Before I make a VERY expensive mistake, should I buy the Type 9 and equip it with a fighter bay or grab the Python?

I run alot of passenger missions, some trading and mostly defense as far as fighting. I dont PvP and when interdicted in my Keelback I let loose with the fighter and attacked the pirate myself as well, it always turned out nicely. So is the Type 9 a bigger, badder Keelback?

I would say only get a T9 if you are going to do heavy trading. Otherwise, it sounds like the Python is going to be up your alley since it is Multi-Purpose.

I happen to like my Type-9.
It's way more than a giant keelback.
It's a flying warehouse.
With armed security guards.

But I do do industrial-strength trading and hauling.. when I'm not doing something else.

Yep, you sealed the deal for me :) I'm buying the T9

T9 is my favourite ship in game (After the Cobra) Been flying the beast for years, extremely rewarding in PvE & PvP since the ship is so damn difficult to master. However, get a Python as soon as your bank balance is healthy again (won't take long in a heavy freighter) you'll fall in Love with the Python, a great all rounder and a joy to fly.

As a side note: make sure you have enough cash to equip the T9, don't fly the ship near stock unless you have a lot of experience under your belt.

Max the distributor to have unlimited boost (The ship basically lives on boost thrust whilst maneuvering) Minimum D rated thrusters for weight saving, equip at least a half decent shield if you are new to lumbering beasts (Min 400Mj and keep 4 in SYS 2 in ENG)

The ship also dislikes Flight assist ON, by all means it is flyable, but it feels like the ship is flying through treacle, it comes alive when flown pure Assist OFF, the nice thing is the heavy inertia makes assist off flying quite easy.

Missiles racks and Torps are my weapons of choice (combined with a fighter) overkill for PvE, very nice if you do find yourself in a tight spot in PvP. Engineer the FSD and Shields if you have Horizons.

Enjoy Commanding a Big Rig, it has the word Heavy in it's name for a reason ;-)

In short the answer is yes. The Type-9 is a monster of a ship and superb for trucking and trading. Engineering the thrusters, FSD and shield modules make it much more fun to fly as well.

yes, the t9 is the big brother of the keelback

when i use it for trading, i have the smallest fighter bay for pure distraction in USS with surprise guests.
also, three modded mine launcher in the medium slots can take care of most ships that interdict you. the two smalls are less optimal for mines as they will explode against your own hull if you fly forward.
when using mines, the SLF is counterproductive as it keeps npcs from flying into the mines
, and even having "report crimes against me" is dangerous to have on when you are using mines (you will be a wanted criminal if a police ship runs in one of your mines)

when i use it as combat multicrew ship, i fit the bigger fighter bay, use two small rails as my main weapon. meanwhile both of my friends usually are out in SLFs to kill stuff.
I have not yet found the perfect fit for the three medium slots for active combat, as fixed weapons are not so good, turrets are weak. so either missiles or gimballed. maybe healbeams to support SLFs

what? you can launch 2 slf at the same time?

No T9 can ever be a Keelback,
it is a space cow.
It lacks maneuverability and speed,
which makes the KB attractive.
Recent hull increases on T-series however might
make that baby into a blockade runner
or battering ram.

yes. either one NPC and one Human Multicrew member, or both multicrew members.

NPC+Multicrew variant is already possible with the gunship (1 MC seat),
2xMulticrew fighters requires either T9 or Beluga minimum (2 MC seats)

that is as soon as Frontier fixes checkpoints so there are actual blockades in the game, until then not much point having a blockade runner LOL
