Type of Controller

Is your controller an "official" Microsoft or a compatible one ?
Also, are the drivers up to date ?

I remember stumbling on a thread on a french forum about Xbox360 issue with the game, and if I recall correctly, the issue was either the fact that the pad wasn't an official one, or that the drivers weren't up to date.

I recently had my drivers update. And as far as I know my controller is an official Microsoft controller, it is just seethrough plastic and has LEDs on the inside. I will try and other 360 controller to see if that works.

Best Stick for this game and that are quite cheap compared to others are the
Thrustmaster X Hotas.

yeah the Thrustmaster X Hotas is great for a cheap Hotas.
I used to have one and loved it untill it broke.

I never realized how much more control and better a good Hotas would be till I got my first Saitek X52.
Its in another league completely and the non pro version really doesn't cost that much anymore.

Saitek x52 is a lot nicer with much more precision, heaps of buttons and lots of axis.
I never need to touch the keyboard for anything in this game.

Don't need the Pro version get the cheaper non pro if you can, it is about the same but without the lights and whistles and less cost.
(I am under the impression the main difference between the two models is the mini LCD)
"Honestly, its not worth the extra bucks difference between the sticks. I have the pro and bought it after I donated my old X52. The only difference between them is the paint, some chrome, and an extra spring on the stick"

I only get to play on the 16th dec. I'm not used to joysticks, but I got myself a Logitec 3D pro. Will practicing with DCS/War Thunder (Flight Sims) make me any less rubbish at joysticks or is a flight sim completely different from space flight?

I started out using mouse/keyboard, never really had any problem with it. Never tried using a controller as i don't have one for PC.

But, after browsing the forums/EDreddit and hearing how much more 'immersive' it was using a hotas setup it kinda piqued my interest a bit, so i started looking. Looked at all the ones mentioned in this thread, but was still unsure, didn't want to spend the money on the 'top dog' only for me to hate flying stick, so settled on the Thrustmaster T-Flight X for £40 off of amazon uk, and TBH i couldn't imagine going back to kb/mouse.

Took a little to get used to it and pop my HOTAS cherry, but after playing around in the tutorials for half hour or so and setting up all the key bindings to my liking, it's like a completely different game and i'd never go back to kb/mouse

In short, if you're unsure, i'd highly recommend the T-Flight X, not too expensive and seems a great introduction for a flight stick virgin like me and anyone else sitting on the fence

I have sworn by my Thrusmaster HOTAS X for years.
Just added a T16000 to it, keeping the Left Hand Throttle/Yaw quadrant of the HOTAS X.
I must say that the precision of the T16000 Hall Effect stick is quantum leap better than the old pots.
The T16000 has benefitted me greatly in other games as well, especially War Thunder Sim Battles
