typing in galaxy map with HCS voicepacks

Hi
I just got an Oculus Rift and am wondering about typing in the galaxy map using an HCS voicepack. Before I go down the road of figuring out my own commands does anyone now if this is inbuilt. I seem to remember way back, ASTRA having a dictation mode.
Thanks

HSC Vouce packs are Woking on a TTS system. I will find the link......

i think ink this is the latest.

That is text to speech, I think what is being asked for is the opposite, speech to text or "dictation mode". Somebody did do a dictation script for ED and VA but I could never get it to work reliably.

Think it is a lot more difficult than it seems. I've been experimenting with a tiny drone type camera to view the keyboard through a pinned window with less than stellar results (probably why the current HMD's don't have them). It's the missing link!

The real and the easiest solution is simple.

Learn to type without needing to see the keyboard, look at the input field instead and then it's a matter of bangin out the practice time.

Plenty of people possess this skill from their every day typing needs so get over it.

also, forgot this:

I tried dash but couldn’t get around on how to use it and since I suffered a performance hit I stopped trying for now. Also not sure how feasible it is to use touch controllers and virtual keyboard. Currently what I do is look for a system/station on eddb alt copy, alt tab and paste to galaxy map. I made this process easier with a mouse button for copy and another for paste or, even better now, with a voiceattack command for paste. To alt tab I use VR desktop so, although I have to leave the game for a couple seconds, I never have to remove hmd. I may give dash another go if I find a nice tutorial on how to use it.

I'm using furniture feet pads on some key(!) keys. The self adhesive types cut out in different shapes around the keyboard. Always in the same pattern. CAPS LOCK, Q, 2, E, 5, 8, 0, J, C.

I know it sounds kinda weird (and nerdy) but this system has gone on for a decade now, even before VR. And it works! It even gives me a nice fast response in none-VR games because of the second nature of it.

Downside: Ugly keyboard. [weird]

Works fine mate, no need for any other work arounds now as they're much more cumbersome compared to using the virtual keyboard. Dash basically provides the functionality everyone has been asking for over the past few years (well for Oculus users at least).

You can either press the keys with your virtual finger or use the pointer by resting your finger on the trigger and then pointing at a key and then pressing the trigger all the way in to press the key.

Not sure what your PC specs are but I don't see any performance drops in Dash, even with 1080p video playing in my cockpit. I don't even close dash anymore, I just move the dash carousel out of view when I'm not using it (usually above the back of the pilots chair) and pull it back into view when I need to use it.

I've read the thread you link to, but i still don't know how to get the keyboard displayed in game with the map open. Do you have a video that shows how to do this? Sorry, having a dense moment.

I don't, but there is a little keyboard icon in the bottom left of each window in Dash, just click it.

Yes,seen that. But how do i get that to appear i side Ed? Im either in the dash 2.0 or im in ed, I can't seem to get any interaction between the two.

Check out the link I posted in my first post in this thread. The information you wanted is in the first post of that thread:

Well its confirmed - Elite Dangerous does not currently have an "official" full Oculus Dash implementation by FDEV. However that is not to say it is totally useless, far from it. Post your tips, experiences and anything inbetween here.

Things I noticed:

- Downloading and launching Elite Dangerous from Oculus Home enables 'Seemless mode' Dash support. If you do not download Elite from Home you will see the 'Void' environment and will not be able to see your cockpit while pinning apps or using the virtual keyboard..

There is no way around this for the time being, if you want (almost) full Dash suppport at the moment then you need to download and launch Elite through Oculus Home. Maybe Frontier have worked on adding full Dash support to the base game - I guess we'll find out in the beta but something tells me that they won't have in the same way that even after all the work they have put into the commodities menu it will still remain flat for VR users....

What I do is to run the Windows 10 on screen keyboard and pin that inside ED. Then when I need keyboard input for anything, I pick up the right hand touch controller, press the Oculus button for dash and either click the keys with the laser beam or press them with the finger. Works really well for all text input if a little clunky and of course you need to set it up every time you start ED.

As Tor mentions, we could all just learn to touch type and problem solved!

I actually went ahead and programmed the entire phonetic alphabet into VA, along with numbers 1-10, commas, periods, space, backspace, etc. Yeah, it was a pain to set up, but it works really well!

Sounds painful, but I like your thinking [yesnod]

There is a themed profile in the VoiceAttack\Sounds\hcspack\Profiles\Themed profile add-ons folder named HCS Alpha Numeric Dictation Pack.vap. After you import this, you should be able to use this for your dictation in the game. It works pretty well as long as your use international phonetic alphabet terms for spelling.
