Tyranids/Zerg-like life forms in ED universe?

:D I am not thinking about thargoids... they have technology.

I was thinking of a faction whose sole purpose is to eat and multiply. Without politics.

A scourge, a plague.

This would add more content to the game too.

Picture this : a hive fleet plop out of nowhere and in 5 days they will reach planet XXXXXX.
Community goals would become available :
- combat pilots, thin the number of flying creatures around the main hive to allow capital ships to strike.
- trader pilots, bring weapons and other wartime cargo and evacuate non essential personel.

:D I think the main problem would be to find the right graphic artists to do all these little beasts... but it would be a reasonable explanation to introduce thargoids...

Thargoids would be fleeing in terror in our galaxy because theirs have been half consumed already.

The flaw would be planets would be consumed and destroyed, if the alien menace isnt sorted the galaxy would be destroyed. Also what would happen if they get to the starter systems are new players expected to fight them in stock sidewinders?

Well, that would be the definitive proof that Frontier has made a fantastic persistent galaxy. Just not very durable... :D

I did not think of the teenage fraction of the population coming from steam... Oh dear.

Yet here you are, praise be. We don't discriminate, that would be unkind. Thank you for buying the game, enjoy your stay and have another day.

I quite like the idea OP! Blasting bugs in space would be fun :)

It also gave me this one thought...that would add something interesting to being able to walk around (and on the outside) of your ship.

Imagine if there were spore like creatures in clouds that attach to your hull and slowly eat through it. You pop out of hyperspace into one of these clouds...dang. You have to don your EVA suit and walk on the hull of your ship shooting them off. If you try to push through it and they breach the hull, it doesn't destroy the ship, but you loose atmosphere and must remove them from the inside before patching up the hull. Stations certainly wouldn't let you dock while 'infested'.

Darn... So an unsafe Disengage onto a 20K Icy Planet it is... Will be fun seeing them hauling towards it when the ship stops from light speed to 0 :D

That should do it!

Just make sure you get them all. I heard its been known to miss one and find your cargo has been eaten at the end of a long trade trip :O

EDIT:
for any future readers, please note I'm making this stuff up!

EDIT EDIT:
Or am I...? ;)

Maybe they would only consume organic matter and then consume each other when there is no more food? Once they have wiped themselves out you could start a CG to re-populate the planet(s) by hauling specific people/livestock and other organic matter back to the planet and re-terraform it.

Also what would happen if they get to the starter systems are new players expected to fight them in stock sidewinders?

The OP suggests small, weak swarm creatures so yes new players should be able to take them on in Sideys. It would be a pretty epic introduction to the game, instant and fairly easy combat to thin the swarm and then "WARNING, CAPITAL CLASS SIGNATURE DETECTED" and they get to watch a cap ship warp in an finish the job.

I'm thinking comets or similar infested by the swarm traveling through space and the swarm can't really move between interstellar bodies by itself as a movement limiter. The cap ship would destroy the comet leaving the swarm stranded until it dies out naturally.

The comet idea is great Taimat!

It would be a fun combat alternative, blasting away at numerous small easy to kill critters.

Maybe the swarm could leave 'spores' like in my previous comments in their wake.

I'm really looking forward to Aliens in this game. I hope they are not humanoid at all.

Last ship inspection while docked at Lave station tarnished you health and safety records cmdr.

What about a mechanoid race it could be loads of robots controlled by a central AI :)

Oops the beserkers also fit that rather nicely ;)
