U.S.S which one should we go to?

Hi,

I have observed that when flying towards an Unidentified Signal Source, a 2nd one will appear when I get close enough to the 1st one, then a 3rd one will appear, and sometimes a 4th.

I always go to the 1st one, but has anyone been testing what happens when you go to the 2nd, 3rd or 4th one? Do you get better/different encounters?

Regards
Crouz

I often switch between USSs - it seems random to me what you encounter (sometimes cargo, sometimes cops, sometimes pirates, sometimes a freight ship, etc). I usual end up choosing the closest one, because I'm impatient :)

but how you can know if you get better at the 2nd USS if you do not visit the first!? :)

no, they are random and there is no better ones, because for me it's better if i see there 3+ pirates, for someone is better to see 10 tonnes of gold, for someone just police ships scanning is the best case scenario.

so what's the best in your opinion?

I assume it's random whichever one you select, or at least there's no way (currently) of telling what you will find until you drop into it.

Shame that they all disappear when you enter one, ruins immersion and basically just feels like a cheap lottery IMHO.

I have yet to find either 3x cops or 3x pirates at all the USS's I've tried.
The cops just scan, the pirates more often than not turn tail and jump as soon as they can.
I've never seen any cargo.

that never happened to me, what do you mean by new client? 1.03 version?

nope... there was just a launcher update... and I suspect they changed SOME game codes ^^ Well, the 2 times I tried 2 hours, I never found gold, alone anymore... always popping now. But, I prefer that... it's harder, and isn't as easy and dumb as it was...

Or, I was just very unlucky those to long attempts along, might also be a plausible explanation...

These do vary by type of system as well. I kept finding floating grain in an agricultural system rather than gold or other metals or minerals. Stolen grain just isn't worth the time spent chasing it with a fuel scoop. I still find gold sometimes but that will be in the anarchy systems. I also don't recall finding the rozzers and being scanned apart from in federation space.

I prefer pirates as they at least put up a fight and I don't get a fine when I kill them. Gold is fine too although at this point making money is so easy that it becomes unimportant.

yeah, i found out different type of crap floating in space, grain, explosives, toxic waste etc. etc. :)

this is what i have seen so far in USS:
– Canisters with different commodities, including Toxic Waste, Grain etc.
– Canisters with Gold (only in Anarchy Systems), sometimes guarded by pirates.
– Lakon Type 9 that if you attack him ejects canisters with toxic waste and tries to jump away;
– Lone merchant ship (sometimes will send comm to you that they are buying goods – just fly near to them with the correct cargo to make the sale);
– Lone Pirate or small group in Sidewinder/Eagle/Cobra;
– Group of 3 pirate Cobras (usually one cobra has many missile hardpoints);
– Group of pirates in Anaconda and Sidewinders;
– Group of police ships fighting pirate(s);
– Group of pirates attacking transport ship;
– Bounty hunters or local police ships scanning for illegal goods and bounties;
– Couple Eranin Sidewinders fighting couple Federation Fighters.

– Lone merchant ship (sometimes will send comm to you that they are buying goods – just fly near to them with the correct cargo to make the sale);

Is that true? Huh. I always just assumed you couldn't do anything with these folks, yet ...just another "placeholder". Thanks.

that's information from FAQ :)
i, personally, never had anything to sell so don't know if it works now, but it will work soon ;)

There doesn't seem to be any pattern (that I can discern) to what you encounter at single or multiple USSs. I have farmed them out of Freeport quite a lot and I've found that when I see containers they generally hold either Gold, Coltan, Explosives or Bauxite (edit: I also got some Grain last night) - the Bauxite isn't worth collecting as you only get 10 credits per :(

The toxic waste hauler definitely buys the toxic waste, at about 95 credits per ton. It will cost you that much to fix your ship after hauling the toxic waste, however.
