General / Off-Topic Ugh ant infestation - help

Hi,

Just desperate here, and this forum is full of experts of some kind or other. I just discovered a horrible ant infestation emerging from one of my walls (right by my bedroom!).

I doused the whole zone with Raid killer and thankfully they are dying. I hope this ends it but my main question is, my cats and dogs. The cats always play with ants and now there are hundred of poisonous ant corpses around. I will hoover them but the floor and wall are still covered with Raid which supposedly lasts for 4 weeks.

Do I have to keep my pets away from there for 4 weeks? This is going to be extremely difficult...

If you have expertise in this area, reassure me by letting me know what it is. This is a life or death question afterall and I'm not really looking for guesses :)

thanks!

Dogs should be ok, I can't say anything about the cats. Cats are a lot more vulnerable to toxins than dogs, for the most part.

If the ants come back get diatomaceous earth. You can sprinkle that in the cats and dogs food and they'll be safe (as long as they have drinking water). As an added benefit it'll kill any fleas they have too. It's sometimes used in cat litter.

Keep vacuuming the little corpses and best of luck to you and little furry pals. :)

I can confirm that cats are kinda stupid when it comes to eating things, especially if they think you don't want them to.

I know insects tend to vary between countries. But it seems insects and other beasts have sensitive sense of smell and tend to dislike strong smells.

From there, it's a matter of experimentation.

I have gotten rid of a mouse for example, using peppermint.

Cat fleas with a solution of Rosmary, garlic and lavender.

Some suggestions I've heard for ants are various vinigers, lemon, garlic. That might suggest they dislike punget smells.

Good luck
