UH... is this real?

Hmmm... I’m not so sure. In the video, while the message is being played. I can also hear the ship’s computer talking in the background saying “warning temperature critical”. I don’t think it says that while lowered down in the hold does it? At least I’ve never noticed it...

I guess he could be playing a separate sound file in the background..

I would hope to see at least one other person replicate this.

I would expect better from FDev's sound team...

I just had station sound play in the background of the forum. Not sure what that was about. Stopped when I reloaded the page.

The content of the message is a run on sentence and really doesn't sound like something frontier would release. Any new content would be discussed to death in a (virtual) meeting room and edited and revised a dozen times. That message doesn't read like a professionally generated message.

If we convert these numbers 070111212005141915 to letters we will get "gakutenso". After applying the same cipher which had been used to decode the rest of the message we will get "abcdefghi"... and it looks like initial sync to the English alphabet.

The guy who posted on reddit is a friend of the guy who recorded it. They saw the video and made a post not long ago debunking it, they just created a player based story and it convinced their friend. The poster of the video also commented on that post and confirmed that they are their friend and it's true. So no, sadly this is fake, although it would have been cool.

One true give away is the fact the audio is the same volume as his voice on the mic...the games sound effects and audio are about 1/3 as quiet.
The other thing is that if you were not recording a video then this is completely lost as you ain't going to remember all of that.

Sucks that it's fake because first contact with a new species is exactly what we need. Imagine the excitement it would cause if Frontier hinted at possible first contact with an entirely new alien race?

Fear not, I'm pretty certain you'll get plenty of chances for first contact in Odyssey if you're fast enough.

Otherwise the exobiology career would feel a bit empty. Granted, there's a reason why there aren't as many movies about first contacts with new plant species.

It's Frontier trying to be exciting when in fact this will have zero impact on what you can actually do in the game. 😉
