Proposal Discussion Uh-oh... Ancient Aliens!

It occurred to me that in our explorations, we might find remnants of old alien races, long gone: their architecture, unknown writings on monoliths carved into the sides of mountains... And it got me thinking: there are plenty of mythological and historical references to cultures that claimed to have been visited by sky-men/birds/critters that were from those stars.

So, based on these observances and earth writings, do you have any ideas of the best places to visit that could lay to rest such myths and historical writings?

Such places (providing they're not already in game play) could provide a great back-drop for the Elite: Dangerous mythology.

An example, from Wikipedia, about some of the original folk from Australia:

The Yolngu people of northern Australia say that the constellation of Orion, which they call Julpan, is a canoe. They tell the story of three brothers who went fishing, and one of them ate a fish that was forbidden under their law. Seeing this, the Sun carried the two brothers and their canoe up into the sky. The three stars in the constellation's centre, which form Orion's Belt in Western mythology, are the two brothers; the Orion Nebula above them is the forbidden fish; and the bright stars Betelgeuse and Rigel are the bow and stern of the canoe.

Canoe? A spaceship more like! Hang on I've been watching Ancient Aliens too much...

Feel free to be as logical, cynical, sarcastic and silly as you like. Just don't have a whiney voice like David Childress, from the series Ancient Aliens. If you can, state:

• the star/system/region/alien base under scrutiny;
• any relevant legends about it;
• it's possible relevance in the game and/or information about the kind of things that might be there;
• the culture that references the star, and some useful links;
• if possible, it's distance from Sol

So, what myths do you know of, that include references to any beings/gods that came/went to stars and had weird or wondrous vehicles (yes - like canoes!), that would be worth visiting when the game starts (assuming human kind haven't already been there)?
