Newcomer / Intro Uh oh, I think I'm screwed!

So what do I do if I run out of fuel? It would appear that I'm stuck with about a quarter tank of gas with no fuel in reaching distance. Do I have any options? I'm at Synuefe QL-T b49-0. What should I do? Should I just self destruct? Will I lose all my scans? Yikes!

You could try synthesizing jumponium to get a longer jump, or call the fuel rats that will top up your tank.

Or maybe try to change the routing to economical.

If you really need it, I could jump my carrier out to let you refuel?

LOL Jack that's all Greek to me! Synthesizing Jumponium? Fuel rats? How would I do any of that? The next system over B49-1 says, "fuel star" "refuel at this system" I'm assuming that means, IF I have a fuel scoop, which I traded for a shield generator. I'm just sitting here quietly contemplating my demise.

Get a fuel scoop, you don't need to sacrifice your shield gen for a fuel scoop, even a tiny fuel scoop will save you in this situation.

The Fuel Rats are heroes of the game, and will help you anywhere they can reach. Though if you are a long way beyond the furthest star in the galaxy it might take them a while to set up to do it again.

Generally I only swap out the fuel scoop if I am following a regular route that I know from the first run is within my ships fuel range.

You could also check e.g. https://inara.cz/ to see where your nearest stations/settlements are:

If you're lucky then with economical route planning you may be able to make it to a station even with a quarter tank - lots of little hops use much less fuel than a few long ones.

Hope your fuel rat experience goes/went well!

Thank you untilting it went very well indeed. I did use Inara and it was too late. There were all out of range!

Live and learn aRJay!! I have learned haha

Yes, I'm very reluctant to fly without a fuel scope!

If not a big one at least a small one to minimize the risk of having to ask the rats or a friend for help.

Jumponium is something you can synthesize from mats you've picked up and it increases your jump range, see: https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Synthesis#FSD_Injection
Thanks again Jack. I have no clue what a mat is. But I'll be reading that link you left to figure it out! Thanks again everyone! You guys and gals are awesome!! PS Jack, I see SRV refuel in that synthesize list but no "ship" refuel. Is it listed under something else?

You can't synthesize fuel for a ship, only buy it, or scoop it from a star.

Materials are something you pick up playing the game. Some from mining and shooting rocks (and other stuff) on planetary surfaces (Raw), others from scanning everything you come across (Encoded), and the third category (Manufactured) from picking stuff up at POIs and after combat (best done with a collector limpet controller). There are also some missions giving mats as rewards. These are mostly useful for engineering your ship, but there is a whole slew of stuff you can synthesize for your ship and srv.

The mats needed for jumponium are all of the first category (Raw), so you'd have to do some mining or shoot rocks (and other stuff) with your srv to pick them up.
