Uhmmm.. my first major bottleneck.. help?

Hello everyone,

So I'm experiencing my first major bottleneck in my park. This hit me out of nowhere, one second I was building a ride and the next second it looks like Black Friday. I have no idea what to do. Expanding this path isn't possible because it's already at the maximum width. I have no idea if I should do anything at all, does it matter? Will these guests eventually become angry?

On a side note I'm so glad I built with the maximum width.

That’s how crowded my local amusement park gets sometimes in the summer and during the Haunt season. Dorney Park in PA.

people can become uphappy when paths are too crowded.... plenty of reasons why and how it happens...

Yes the max width for regular paths is 10m, BUT there is the option to build on a grid, depending how wide your path is, the grid will be the same size.
So you can actually make paths as wide the entire map...

Search on youtube for some tutorials on the path system, how it works... plenty of video's out there (can't post them all here).

You can combine paths, make plazas, make different paths leading to the most crowded places... or better atractions/rides.

If using a grid isn't possible (because you have buildings and rides in the way), try giving the peeps an alternative route so they have more that 1 way of getting from A to B.

I've done this in some of my parks where this happens and it does ease congestion. The alternative route(s) don't even need to be max width, they just need to take some of the strain in foot traffic.

Queue Lines for the shops are blocking the path as well.

And you built one straight path that has to transport all of the guests, you need to spreqd things more out to keep crowds less congested. [up]

As FutureFear said here, you can make them larger by using the Path Grid, where you can expand them. - Another alternative to this issue, is giving them another route(s) to get to where they want to. - Just explained in Big Draco's reply.

Hope this helps, and you find a way to overcome this problem! [happy]

Do you have a picture of your park from high up? It's easier to help with this kind of congestion if we can see the entire park.

Yes, he posted a overview pic earlier on another thread.
At least I think it's the same park.

The problem is that he only has one long straight path, no other paths to go around the congestion.

If this is the case, jesric is going to have to change their park layout to suit the foot-traffic they are currently getting to solve the problem.

Wow thanks for the help and responses. I was trying to figure out how to create an even wider path and now that you mention the grid I will have to try that out. I think that for now I won't do much since I don't plan to do much with this park since it's medium difficulty and I kind of want to create another park on hard.

Def will take more care into how I plan my paths in the future. The straight line seemed easy to organize but was a mistake.

Awesome! - Let us know what you end up with in the future with this. Good luck!

Good advice on the shops. I moved them back a bit and the worst of it is fixed. There are still tons of people but they aren't just walking into each other stuck now. Thanks.

Yup.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, and keep building.
Make either a "T" intersection where the path ends now, or a four way intersection depending on future plans.
Start working both sides for a bit, to help spread the population.
The plan is blocked on one side by the boat ride, but I would create another path at the front of the park at the teacups, which could go nicely under the coaster on the right, and loop back to the "T" path I suggested. Get a few rides on this extension, and some shops, and I think your congestion would be cut down quite a bit.

Wow great minds think alike I guess, that is exactly what I did before I read your message. Right at the teacups even. I plan to expand that path out to the edge of the park and then link back to the other congested paths end with a transport system, probably a train.

I think one problem is that I've made the ride queue lines a as skinny as possible because I like the way it looks better but then it creates difficulty when too many guests try to enter at once, I think the best solution is to make the first path larger so that it creates a sort of funnel for the guests.

Excellent!

I would still connect the paths eventually. Having dead ends keeps people too concentrated.
Transport would create it's own bottlenecks if the lines aren't long enough/process peeps fast enough.

Just a thought. [up]

Good idea. I've considered using an underground tunnel system to connect these areas of the park together so I don't have to have so much long paths going through what I consider "deadlands" in the park.

The deadlands are the areas built under a coaster. I don't like these places beacuse they often become ugly, filled with coaster supports so I prefer to just build around the coasters and I could use a tunnel to do the path.

Why is there no auto tunnel for pathing though? I've noticed that and it's kind of annoying. The only easy solution is to use a coaster to auto tunnel then remove it and build path in it's place.

I could give you all kinds of thoughts on how to tackle this, as many here could...[haha]
But I'll stop.

You're building a nice lookin' park. I hope to see more of it as you work, and problem solve. [up]

Thanks,

I ended up building a food court in the spot where everyone was trying to access those two shops. Seemed to resolve the bottleneck and every shop has a maxed line, I was going to theme the shops but decided to just use the basic shop so that I could fit more in the small area.

Monorail?

I was about to ask if the distance of the congestion was so long that you couldn’t use a monorail or elevated train at the two ends of it. I’ve had some pretty bad build up along the path that connects two of my regions that I need to sort out. I’ve got a train running now (I really need to figure out how to get a train station at the front of the park too) and still get a lot of bodies on the road...
