UI FOCUS AND UI FOCUS MODE

When using VR, Most of us use Focus to panel shows panel. I am guessing most with head tracking use this mode. Its great! Just look at the panel and it shows up. Well its great when you want it too. Sometimes you just want to look out the window without the panel poping up or in between your legs when landing an asp, type 9,10 or type 6. Right now you can disable it if you hold the UI FOCUS button. It would be great if this button was a toggle instead of holding it. Or flip it around, Hold the button then look at the panel will focus it.

Its a small change that would bring big improvement. Specially for VR players

You can turn it off permanently in your keybindings. I don't recall the exact setting. Something about Focus On Panel maybe? Or UI Focus? But I know you can, because that's how I have it set.

Go into Options/ Controls / Mode Switches
There you have options like:
Looking at External (Internal,Comms or Role) Panel
you just choose the behaviour when looking at the panel between "Does nothing" and "Focuses the panel"

I understand you can turn it off by going into controls menu. Im asking for it to be turned off with a button. A toggle button not a hold button (which it is now)

For combat its great to have focus panel. For exploring and viewing its nice to have off. If I run with it off I cant go into contols and change it while I am getting interdicted by another player... Maybe work in SP or PGs

I was thinking the same thing when playing today, I love just looking over to one of the panel and having it open but after playing in VR for about a week now, I had to turn off "focuses the panel" because it gets in the way of just enjoying the view.

I tried using the hold down button for UI focus mode but doesn't work correctly for VR because you need to hold down the key constantly to prevent any of the panels from popping up.

I agree, it should be reverse in VR. Toggling it on and off is a good idea but also having a hold down key would be great to just open the panel when looking in the direction of the panel and when the panel is open, there is no need to hold down the focus mode key. Once you're done using the panel, simply look away and it will disappear.

It's been annoying me for years. And there appears to be a number of threads on the issue in recent months as well.

The concept is that there should be a single button that just "activates"/ "deactivates" the panel you just happen to be looking at.
Alas, it was designed the "other" way round, that the UI-focus "modifier" button is to be held down and then one of the four directions needed to be applied.

The closest thing I've found is using "button activated" only.

This gives you the ability to look around and not have your field of vision disturbed,
The draw back being, you then have to press the specific panel button you want.
which comes back to, there has to be a specific bind for each individual panel, External, Comms, Role & Internal.
And if you don't apply the "Focuses the panel" you can activate and deactivate panels that you aren't looking at to your heart's content...which can get super-frustrating.
