General / Off-Topic UK's Sabre engine gets new investment boost

UK's Sabre engine gets new investment boost - Rolls-Royce and Boeing join.

"... the Sabre engine. This power plant is designed to push a vehicle from a standing start all the way to orbit in a single step. It would work like a conventional jet engine up to about Mach 5.5 (5.5 times the speed of sound) before then transitioning to a rocket mode for the rest of the ascent. "

(Maybe atmospheric operations in E D are not too far away? ;) )

Good spot, but as usual, UK companies have to produce more with less. In this market surely £26.5m is pocket change (if you have big pockets)?

Saw this myself and have been checking in periodically on their progress over the years. Hopefully this is there time !
This revolutionary engine has been in developement for a very long time. Another potential genius British invention surviving on little funding.

Roll Royce owned by BMW

No that is just Rolls-Royce cars which are built by BMW. Rolls-Royce the aero-engine etc manufacturer is a UK plc - nothing to do with BMW.

"Rolls-Royce Holdings (formally Rolls-Royce Holdings plc) is a British multinational public limited company incorporated in February 2011 that owns Rolls-Royce, a business established in 1904 which today designs, manufactures and distributes power systems for aviation and other industries. Rolls-Royce is the world’s second-largest maker of aircraft engines and has major businesses in the marine propulsion and energy sectors. All of its shares are tradeable on the London Stock Exchange and other markets."

see: http://www.rolls-royce.com/

re the cars:

"Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited is a British luxury automobile maker. A wholly owned subsidiary of German group BMW, it was established in 1998 after BMW was licensed the rights to the Rolls-Royce brand name and logo from Rolls-Royce PLC and acquired the rights to the Spirit of Ecstasy and Rolls-Royce grill shape trademarks from Volkswagen AG. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited operates from purpose-built administrative and production facilities opened in 2003 across from the historic Goodwood Circuit in Goodwood, West Sussex, England, United Kingdom. Rolls-Royce Motors Cars Limited is the exclusive manufacturer of Rolls-Royce branded motor cars since 2003.

Although the Rolls-Royce brand has been in use since 1906, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars subsidiary of BMW AG has no direct relationship to Rolls-Royce branded vehicles produced prior to 2003. The Bentley Motors Limited subsidiary of Volkswagen AG is the direct successor to Rolls-Royce Motors and various other predecessor entities that produced Rolls-Royce and Bentley branded cars between the foundation of each company and 2003, when the BMW-controlled entity started producing cars under the Rolls-Royce brand."

Yes and no-ish.

It has been independently tested by Eagleworks Labs (NASA Advanced Propulsion research labs).

It has been demonstrated to show an anomalous approximately 60 micro-Newton thrust that they are having a hard time explaining. Devil is in the details, when quantifying small thrust like this, there are MANY MANY experimental errors that can occur (e.g. vibration, RF interference of wires which induce anomalous torques to the torque balance and many more).

I can give a lot more information and links if you so wish about it, as I'm actively interested in this propulsion stuff.

Starman, understand the difference between ownership, investments and related percentages.
BAE Systems, the British government, Rolls Royce, Boeing and some others are a part of this. Not inventors of the technology or soul owners of the company and its unique technology.

The heat exchanger system to the Sabre engine is for instance, and to my knowledge, never been patented, but rather, kept as a ‘trade secret’. Shared by Mr Bond and a select few. For the soul purpose of retaining ownership of that technology. ....which, is British conceived and owned. That is not to say however that the technology can’t in the future be purchased by just about anyone. But... Today that is not the case.

You have retracted your leading statement “it’s owned by BMW which is German..”. Everyone knows BMW is German, but what is clear is, you do not know who the owners of Reaction Engines are..
And with that said, I’m going back to my bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes.
