Ultimate FSD Engineer located at Beagle point

Well that would sort the dedicated explorers from the pew pew crew, or even better, the pew pew crew find out just how much time and dedication it takes to fly to the other side of the galaxy :)

Thoughts?

What I'm hoping is that some engineers will be well outside the bubble...

Thoughts?

I hope they do so,you could plan a nice trip, pick a ship to carry the weapon/module and make a nice exploration on the way and back.

Since they're "lone wolfes", it would make sense for many of them to exist outside the bubble.

I wouldn't mind that... Beagle Point though? Would hate having to haul an FdL there to get an Upgrade. And imagine the Upgrade wasn't good? Quite a commute for a "try again?" ;)

i reckon beagle point might be a bridge too far.... what about something that would make more sense, such as the wayfarers graveyard near the formidine rift? That would make more sense yes? given the number of supposed shipwrecks there

In a way you might not be far wrong. In the live stream, it was mentioned that one of the requirements to meet a certain engineer was based on your maximum distance from your starting system. So it's quite possible that this engineer won't see fit to talk to you until you've gone 65000ly+ :)

Would be fun if there were also abandoned Engineer bases or sites where you could deploy your SRV and go looking for potential materials or maybe even a mission trigger that eventually leads you to an engineer in a remote location... like a message left behind as they had to evacuate the base for whatever reason.

That would certainly trigger the interest in exploration for me at least.

Exploration isn't fun if there is no sense of mystery or wonder involved.

I could see the Galactic Core... MAYBE. 15K LY out in my mind will be the max required. Could be wrong though. They lock a lot of content behind arbitrary ranks.

I wanted to take a FDL, but even after I removed the cup holders and sound proofing it still can't get it to Beagle 20ly just not enough range, if an engineer could boost the FSD to 24ly I may well take a FDL to Beagle. It looks great and is awesome for screen shots, but it's current range makes it impossible to get to beagle.

Whilst I do like the irony of having to have cranked 65kly+ over before you can get an FSD drive upgrade, it does sort of defeat the purpose, does it not? I mean if I want my FSD to have an extra 3 ly jump range I suppose I could just toss out the jacuzzi, (inflatable) companion co-pilot, extensive collection of waylon jennings vinyl albums - and life support. Right? Who even needs LS.

Oh, in that case I might benefit from a Bug after the Statistic was implemented...
Game still thinks I went >68000LY from Start :D

(it's not like I found the secret Jumpgate to Beta Phoenicis or something like that :p )

LS is for the wimps and the puny oxygen breathers.

I almost tried to take my FDL to Sagittarius A, but I just couldn't find a way to outfit it for good range, and general exploration stuff. I think I got it to 18ly.
Ended up taking my Python. 23ly range, and a full endurance exploration suite fitted.
I'd never take my FDL to beagle... 65,000ly at 18ly range. Nah... Lol

But if you were a true explorer, you'd do it all on fuel-efficient routing. [big grin]

Sag A* you can reach with anything even with E-drives, star density gets just thicker and thicker.

I do not think the pew pew pew crowd is overly interested in better FSDs (especially not when they end up using more power). To make them go to Beagle Point the engineer there should be a weapons and shield guru - that would be somewhat sadistic and illogical however so...

Well an engineer out there would have to supply something that is both useful and in demand there, and also producible, yet makes no sense to provide inside the bubble instead. I am not sure what that could be. Keep in mind that if this is a bonus that is also very useful for non-explorers, it would be highly aggravating to put it on an engineer so far out. For example jump range, while that is the first thing that springs to mind, it is even more a useful buff for combat ships because they are already short on it anyway. Getting 2 extra Ly out of an Asp is nice. Getting 2 extra Ly out of a Corvette is huge.

I do like the general idea of a base out there, however. Repair, refuel, new SRVs, should be among the things available.

Most anyone flying a Viper, FDL or Corvette will probably seek out jump range as one of the first upgrades to their ship. (Well, 2nd for me, after blue lasers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Edit: I do have an idea for an engineer upgrade at Beagle Point. How about fuel scoop speed? It is something that directly benefits explorers, especially when you travel really long distances, and is not something that anyone in or near the bubble should be direly in need of more.
