Hardware & Technical Ultra-wide monitor advice required please

Hi all,

I am looking for a new monitor and have decided to go for a 29" Ultra-wide model but wondered if any of you are using such monitors and how you find them? 2560x1080 seems to be the resolution of choice but beyond that I know little about these types of monitor so any advice would be most welcome.

I am actually constrained by the location of my PC so a monitor with a height adjustable stand would be best but I guess I could go with an arm if needs be. If anyone would be willing to give monitor dimensions for their monitors that would be fantastic. I can squeeze in something that's up to 900mm wide but the height from base is the important measurement - I think I can manage about 450mm from the desktop (need to be able to get my TrackIR on top of the bezel).

Cheers in advance.

Cheers for that, been looking at the Predator already but it's a bit pricey. I wanted to get a more balanced view from the community to see what other monitors people are using rather than just going with a single choice but the Predator is on my list of potentials.

I used to use the Acer Predator Z35 Curved that ran at 2560 x 1080 until I got my ASUS PG348Q 34" that runs at 3440 x 1440.

The wife now has the Predator.

Both resolutions look fine to be honest.

I brought an Acer XR342ck (3440x1440) specifically for Elite. So much more immersive. Look for a 1440p over 1080p, the extra height does make a difference.
The XR342ck can be got for £600 from Scan IIRC. Superb monitor, stonkingly good, cant say enough about how well this performs. Run mine off of a GTX 1080 even tho its a Freesync monitor.

I have a 29" 1080p ultrawide, LG 29UM68 with Freesync. I love it. And since my older monitor was a 24" regular 1080p, they fit perfectly size-wise next to each other.
It does help give a better view of what's going on around you when you fly around. Just beware that Frontier is hellbent on never adding proper ultrawide support to the game, despite an endless number of bug reports. Menus aren't aligned your cursor will point that the wrong things on the system and galaxy maps... If you can live with that the game does indeed get a lot better.

Thanks guys. If I went for a 34" which would be the best in terms of altering the monitor height?. As I say I have plenty of space to the sides but height is an issue. My pc lives under the stairs (I am CMDR Potter) so I have to contend with a sloping back wall :(

If the foot doesn't have any height adjustments I guess you could look into VESA mounts. They come in all sorts of variations. (wall mount, desk mount, other mount)

Hey everyone. So, I made my choice and went with the Predator Z301C, a 29.5" 2560x1080 VA curved panel.

It's a good fit in the space I have available, immersive but not overwhelming. As I run an Nvidia GTX970 I wanted a G-Sync capable monitor to replace my 24" AOC G2460PG. Both monitors natively support 144Mhz refresh rates and Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB), although I have found on the Predator that you have to disable G-Sync and drop the refresh rate to at least 100Mhz to be able to enable ULMB.
