Past experience suggests that it is exactly what it looks like - an exceptionally large star.
If it is a single star, it is safe to visit. But, if it is a multiple star system, there is a chance you get fried to a crisp when you jump in.
Now go take a look.
Sometimes you fly through the first star if they're really close. First time it happened to me I was sure that this was the end.Yes I jumped into a system recently and there were 2 stars near to each other
-
So close in fact that when I jumped in I was instantly thrown into the "emergency stop-too close" drop out of SC
- I wasn't able to jump into the system and had to pick another star system to warp to in order to escape (Going to SC dropped me out instantly)
-Luckily only took 3% hull damage though

um... I don't have any....If you are exploring, pack a heat sink launcher. You can deploy them in super cruise and they may give you a couple of extra seconds of grace before you and anything even remotely conducive to heat turn into vapour.
