Um... anyone know what this is likey to be??

And is it safe to visit do we think?!!

Past experience suggests that it is exactly what it looks like - an exceptionally large star.

If it is a single star, it is safe to visit. But, if it is a multiple star system, there is a chance you get fried to a crisp when you jump in.

Now go take a look. ;)

Yes I jumped into a system recently and there were 2 stars near to each other
-
So close in fact that when I jumped in I was instantly thrown into the "emergency stop-too close" drop out of SC
- I wasn't able to jump into the system and had to pick another star system to warp to in order to escape (Going to SC dropped me out instantly)
-Luckily only took 3% hull damage though

Sometimes you fly through the first star if they're really close. First time it happened to me I was sure that this was the end.

Meep!! ok!

If you are exploring, pack a heat sink launcher. You can deploy them in super cruise and they may give you a couple of extra seconds of grace before you and anything even remotely conducive to heat turn into vapour.

um... I don't have any....

Well then short of main - lining ice cream, opening the cockpit and farting profusely you don't have any safe way of cooling your ship. Approach with extreme caution or jump in with both feet and a hand.........

Your choice.

You feeling lucky? :D

Good thing is that you can always return with heat sinks if things go pear - shaped.

I mean seriously!!! look at the size of this thing!!!! This is like tiny nebula size!!

I'm still 700ly away an plan on pulling up in a neighbouring system and fully expecting the whole sky to be it up with this thing from there! I'll also be on the end of at least a 5 day exploration trip with lots of scanning and an earth-like thrown in, so big money to be lost if all goes wrong...

Who fancies meeting me there to take the plunge??! :D

Don't listen to all the naysayers ;) I've visited lots of the big suns; incidents where you get stuck in one are remarkably rare...

Mind you, I always jump a little when I see more than one sun flying towards me as I drop out of hyperspace.

Yes but did you go in??!! :E

I didn't personnally, but Wezen is a popular destination, just search on google (or not if you don't want to spoil the fun :D). Hint : what is in Wezen is truly frightening...

As you can see on my screenshot, Polaris is locked by a permit that you can't obtain yet. The system is reserved for future content. THARGOIDS I TELL YA ! :D

I found a huge blue one, fairly close to human space.

It's a really cool system to explore; everything is lit in crazy blue!

I think it's maybe bugged - it's a blue-white supergiant (at the end of it's life) but less than 1 million years old!!

Honestly you will be fine warping in, the game stops you at a safe distance. You do need to make sure your throttle is at zero once your FSD activates though. The problems arise when you encounter a binary or greater star system, since the game only seems to consider the primary mass in the system when calculating a safe position to arrive at...
