umbilical docking for large ships on smaller stations with no L pads.

As subject title, and it almost breaks the suspension of disbelief that it's not already the case. They'd be using shuttles to and fro otherwise, rather than just in a stalemate of a ship and a station staring at each other like a pair of idiots, but an umbilical would seem like the obvious/easier thing to implement. Also, it would look pretty damn cool.

I think it is the future, sooner or later.
Not only to be able to dock ships larger than large pad size, but also for other ships having front shapes other than rectangular, which will not pass through the station mail slot.
Maybe this should bring back as well ships which are not super cruise enabled, used to transfer cargo and crew to and from the station, the "Lifter"
