umm...how to uninstall the game? Not the launcher. The GAME?

Updating some things on my system and need some space but Elite seems....weird. Its not on the normal programs list. Its not in either of my /Programs directories.
Removing the launcher still leaves 2GB or so in my user data so I think the game (or a lot of it) is still there.

I know Frontier has pride in their game, as they should, but its a bit crazy to think no one would ever remove it. Or that they have to manually go around cleaning bits up. :-/

Is this a bug? Or some massive "uninstall" button I am missing?

Can someone just try uninstalling themselves for a mo and let me know whats normal?

It's pretty old school. You just have to manually delete C:\Users\{your_username}\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments.

Go to C:\Users\"youraccount"\AppData\Local\ and delete Frontier_Developments folder.

(note - AppData is hidden by default. Type it into the navigation bar above)

EDIT: Damn them sneaky ninjas. >.<

Yeah, that was the folder I found with 2GB.

But umm...this cant be the intention for a released v1 game can it?
Has then been an official Elite statement on this?

Surely its got junk elsewhere....registary etc.

Perhaps, but lots of games and software leave junk in your registry even after an uninstall, so it's not uncommon. But since your registry is nothing more than a database of key = value pairs, it's harmless. As for other stuff, in the same folder you also have a directory "Frontier Developments" without the underscore. That stores your configuration settings. And you'll find another Frontier Developerments folder in your Pictures library, which is where screenshots are saved. But if all you care about is backing up the game, then zipping the two folders in your Local directory mentioned before will be enough. In the future, just unzip the game to that same directory and run the launcher. It will detect the game and any previous updates you've downloaded.

Minecraft also behaves like this where they download the game to your local folder, which I do admit is not proper. I suppose this was just a quick and dirty way for the devs to get the game installed on your system.

Do remember registry can get too big over time. So individually nothing is harmfall, but its still rather "bad form" when apps just leave stuff arbitarily about the place.
I know about the images folder (keeping that). Not worried about the rest. Actually got a corrupted Boot menu at the moment and only getting into windows by using a uti boot disc (Hiren’s BootCD - very recommended). Need to clear out enough junk to put a fresh Ubuntu on which should fix the Grub and hopefully just detect Windows7 in the process. However to do that I need enough spare space, and my OS drive is a not-to-big SDD.

Anyway, just surprise's me this is how its supposed to be done. Do they assume all Elite players are technical enough to do this? I mean, I am sure theres some bias towards more technical people to play games like this, but its hardly absolute.

where?

It IS under Options, 7th item down "Uninstall Game"

Click the option link in the launcher and a menu will drop down
Uninstall

Must be a bug then, as I clicked that and the drop down just had language setting listed.

Makes much more sense if its supposed to be there though, as thats sort of where I expected it. Would show a screenshot but I just uninstalled the launcher. (which did show up on the windows add/remove programs list)

7th?

I just had 1 item!

Make sure you are logged in to the launcher or the uninstall wont appear.

Haha ninja'd twice, I should've replied a bit quicker :)

Nope.

Just doing the hard drive equivalent of Tetris.

Despite my odd moan (and sticking up for some others that do) I am still very invested into Elite, still enjoy playing, and havnt yet remotely put in enough hours to be bored by it. :)

I'll be hopefully back up installing it later tonight.
