Ummm... Chaff, how do you do it people ?

I've just watched 'squid of love's' yt vid on the imperial eagle and at approx 14min-20secs he says something about using his chaff and promptly uses one..... well I am sure he plays ED on pc so... he has probaly mapped his chaff to a keybinding.

Well my question is how do you people use chaff in your COMBAT builds when playing with a controller/gamepad on Xbox , seeing as we cant map chaff to a button press, do you people allways have to change fire groups ( this, to me, seems like a silly/longwinded way of combat jockeying ) ?

ps. Ive been playing this wonderful game for quite awhile so am not a noob and some of my wing mates seem to have to change fire groups to deploy chaff, surely there is a better way, or are we all a bit stewpid ?

You can map some functions to certain buttons now. For example my chaff is B+< dpad. I replaced my lights on/off because you have that in the functions tab. Super easy to use now that they don't have to be on a fire group.

Edit:
Heat sinks and scb's also have the ability to be mapped, but not ecm for some weird reason.

Go into your controller (layout?) menu and it will bring up all of your controls, figure out what you don't use a lot, and change them to chaff, heat sinks etc.

I just keep it bound on another firing group, since I can't assign it to a combo of keys.

The only utility function I'm able to bind is heat sinks.

Tis what I use my friend, but Ive gotta say Ive taken the underneath paddles off it !

The problem is mapping here i think, can we get a definitive answer here people ????????

CAN WE MAP CHAFF TO A BUTTON PRESS or do we struggle on with having to use chaff in a fire group ?

My chaff is mapped to LB + RB.

There is no reason for me to press both of them at the same time, and I rarely hit them on accident.

Much faster than firegroup switching.

Swapped out head look to put chaff on right stick click. Left stick click is FA on / off.

I have chaff mapped to a button on my throttle but also as the second click indent on my X52 pro trigger. So If I'm in the heat of battle and need chaff I just squeeze the trigger harder and if I am running away with hard points retracted I just hit the throttle button

I have chaff set to B+LB and SCB set to B+RB.. depending on the ship im using i will swap out the chaff for Heatsinks or whatever..
Simples..
The button mapping on this game is extensive and there are plenty of guides available but trial and error and personal preference take precedence

I have mine set to X+Left Trigger, with SCBs set to X+Right Trigger. In my head, X and Triggers are "combaty things", so it's more intuitive. Does some wonky things with hard point deployment, though that hasn't caused me any trouble so far.

Top tip.

Map counter measures like chaf to your primary fire plus one of the four buttons on the cross pad.
This way in combat you will always hold down primary fire you can then deploy chaf,SCBs or whatever by pressing on of the four cross button positions.
Then there is no messing around with any other buttons.

I use chaff wilt LB + RB and have have shield cell banks to B+LB and heat sink to B+RB seems to work well for me.

I haven't read the rest of the posts yet, but yes you can. My chaff is mapped to Y+LB. I don't even have it assigned to a trigger in the fire group section at all.

Generally I would have the Chaff on the same button as my missiles or mines. Offencively the missiles won't fire unless I have a lock, so no wasting ammo and i don't mind dumping chaff while chasing another ship and using missiles. Option 2 is defencive. I have the same trigger to dump mines and chaff at the same time. I use the same chaff launcher for both fire groups. I do have another ship with 2 chaff launchers but its unarmed and i have one on each trigger.
