Unable to activate account

My friend just bought the game on steam and we're getting stuck at the part where we have to verify our account with an email sent to us. But we're not receiving the email. It's not in the junk folder and he is able to receive emails. Every time I file a ticket about this it seems to disappear. if someone from support get a hold of me I'd really appreciate it
