Newcomer / Intro Unable to find my preset

Hello commanders,

After upgrading my pc, I will play elite again, I saved my preset which I did not change the name called custom, I know that this the default name everytime I made a change in controls,so I change my preset custom to Elite 2021 and in startpreset I change to Elite 2021, but I could not find it when I go to option and controls, can any commander tell me how to fix this? thanks.

not sure what type of upgrade youve done to your pc but if you have a new machine or SSD\SSD then did you backup and restore your bindings file which can be found at
C:\Users\[your logon]\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings (these are within hidden files\folders)
or try
%localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings (copy and paste into windows explorer)

you should see a .binds file in here with the name of your custom bind ie myCustomBinds.binds, if your not sure which is your then copy\restore the whole lot

thanks for your reply,I got new Machine and reinstall the windows 10 and I know the location of the folder my issue as I mentioned that I could not load the preset.

ahh appologies

if youve changed the name of the file then youll need to edit the Eite 2021.binds file within notepad or other plain text editor, the second line of that file should be
<Root PresetName="MyBinds" MajorVersion="3" MinorVersion="0"> (iirc in the default binds file this will be CUSTOM not myBinds)
change MyBinds to the name you want to see in ED ie Elite2021 (not sure it will work with the space)

if this still does not work you might find other clues as to whats happening in BindingLoadingErrors.log

no problem , wel I did try put custom 3.0.binds (the last file I used) name in that folder without rename it, when I load the controls in ED, I could not find it, do you think I need to change that and edit it in text editor as you mentioned?

the custom3.0.binds might have been overwritten when the game first launched iirc those files get created on first launch, it might be worth copying it back again

otherwise rename the file, then edit in a text editor and change the the RootPresetName so it shows the name you want to see in ED, be warned however; ive found that these custom bind files need to be manually loaded every launch by opening keybinds in game and closing

You can also have issues if you've plugged controllers into different ports after the upgrade.. this has happened to me.. For example an Xbox controller moves from wired to wireless, this gives it a different code and means custom.bind won't 'work'.... it should output an error file in the location of the custom.binding,, this may help track the issue down

yes I knew that issue, also when I unplug a hardware of I do not use it anymore I alwasy get BindingLoadingErrors.log
how do you fix that, I did track them in the log file but not always fix the problem.

E: D is stupid like that. At least have the controllers you want to use plugged in before you start the game (or Launcher even), if that isn't enough, then you need have same stuff plugged in each time.
