Unable to initialise Network

This problem is still there (reported bug for 2 versions). Whats the problem?! My internet connection is up and working. If i start the launcher a few times it works sometimes. No changes made.

What caused this message? No connection to frontier servers? Connection timeout?!

Please fix this. Its very annoying

Suggestions: Check for anti-virus / firewall programs that have an option for gaming mode. or maybe turn them off for a few mins while you try to connect to see if they are blocking the communication.

If using the steam version, see if it produces the same issue when running the launcher directly outside of steam.

Oh yes Frontier should immediately send one of it's technical support people round to your house to sort out your computer.

I agree that it looks like a firewall issue try adding "EliteDangerous64.exe" to your allowed list.

Turns out there is some problem with certain types of connection such as via VPN. So, sorry for being dismissive earlier. Good luck.

Its in MSE whitelist. Its also whitelisted in windows firewall.

After some launcher restarts it works. Sometimes it works on the first try. Sometimes it doesnt work after 20 launcher restarts. Sometimes it works on first try but after restart game it doesnt work. If it is related to my antivirus/firewall settings shouldnt it dont work anytime?

*edit
I reported this 2 times. Some other people also reported this. But no answer. No fix

You can try a network reset. (assuming your on windows 10)

  1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
  2. On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm. Wait for your PC to restart, and see if that fixes the problem.
The error you posted is not isolated to just Elite Dangerous. Other games have experienced the same issue.
Most of the time they get out the issue by repeated attempts like you stated. So it leads me to believe that error happens because there is something wrong with the computer in question, or the servers for the game are down. As others are connected to ED it eliminates this being a server issue.

Also Network adapter corruption can lead to the error ‘Failed to initialize network’
Updating network adapter drivers could help that.
If you are unsure how to do this manually you can use programs like DriverEasy https://www.drivereasy.com/kb/DriverEasy_Setup.exe

And lastly if on windows 10, you can try to ensure it is updated.
select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update , and then select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.

Network reset dont work. Also re-plug network cable sometimes dont work.
Drivers and Windows up to date.

Im not new with PC/Software/Programming. Would it be possible, i would fix this bug myself. Its just a bad is-server-connection-there?-check-routine.

Yeah i would agree with "Its just a bad is-server-connection-there?-check-routine." but what is causing it is puzzling.
Even your screen shot shows the launcher see's the server status and is pulling the feeds.

I wonder.. ISP/network or PC.. maybe hooking up to a cell hotspot assuming data rates don't hinder you. simply testing a different network to narrow down where the problem is stemming from. The internet provider, and modem/router or isolated to the PC and its settings/drivers/applications. See if we get the same error on a different network if possible.
Maybe switching between wifi/LAN will make a difference if that is an option.

Sounds like you are adept at working though the issue and may have tired many of these things, but helps to have another mind on the subject to double check.

I use a hybrid modem with LTE. If used bandwith is under 20Mbit, only ADSL is used. Low latency, very stable. Also with LTE, latency is very low with 40Mbit bandwith. PC is connected via cat6 cable. WiFi is no option. It wouldnt work as good as with cable.

Testing a different network is no option.

Yeah. If you are forced to relaunch the launcher for 10 minutes (or more) to play i bet you also will be tired. Meanwhile i am not in mood to start the game anymore.

I feel you, Been there before.
Besides those are all the suggestions i could research or come up with. You have the ticket in so lets hope you get a reply from FD with some better options.

I disabled IPv6, IPv4, deleted and reinstalled the game, deleted the game from the SSD and transferred to the HDD, launched the game via VPN. Nothing helps. Unable to initialize network.
All other games are working properly. I have never experienced this problem until the current ARX update.
Developers ignored their own forum for 2 days, now went on the weekend, listed bugs related only to the purchase of ARX.
Not a single patch since the release of this crippled update.

Maybe try port forwarding?
This thread quided me to relevant info:

There is a known / acknowledged issue of being unable to connect via VPN - it seems this has something to do with the returned socket / port or summat causing failure to connect with the AWS server. So even if not using a VPN, this same issue might be at play. I know nothing about it but if you have a dig around the VPN issue reports you might find some words of advice as to relevance or work-around.

Good luck.

I'm not on VPN and am getting this error. What is going on?

Launcher also looks weird (server status):

The menu then shows this:
