Unable to play through steam account

I purchased Elite Dangerous several years ago on XB1 and have been playing on that since then. Recently I built a gaming PC to play ED on that platform. I have purchased the game on Steam, but for some reason when I go to log in it is saying I need to purchase it.

You can't use your xbox one account on a steam version.

You need a new account with the game linked to both frontier and steam.

Someone will be along in a few with the instructions on how to do that, or you could look on steam, possibly on the launcher itself too and follow them.
