Unable to start ED launcher after hotfix download

After steam automatically downloaded the hotfix, I'm now unable to start the game. Every attempt forces the launcher to show this message... any ideas?

That's unfortunate. I got a chance to play it yesterday when the servers stabilized. Ran nicely for the few hours I was on. I'm not sure if this particular issue is Frontiers fault or Steams fault, though. I've tried the instructions given but no luck. I'll try to reboot the PC in a moment to see if that does anything.

I had the same issue and solved it by opening up the ED launcher directly (not through Steam), and I was finally able to update. I'm a Lifetime pass owner that connected my account to Steam, btw.

The instructions to configure Steam download priority won't help because that's not actually the problem. Steam doesn't acknowledge that you own Odyssey and won't download the update through the Steam client at all, so then it doesn't launch due to the version mismatch. You have to log into the launcher outside of Steam in order to apply the update from within the launcher itself.

I was experiencing this too - reinstalls didn't help.
When you run the launcher directly, go ahead and click on update - and WAIT. it won't look like it's doing anything; I clicked it and groused a bit, then the dog wanted a walk - after coming back from the dog walk, the launcher let me play odyssey.

Me and a few others are having an issue with the stand-alone launcher. When trying to run EDLaunch.exe without steam running, it prompts you for your Frontier account. After which, I log in then prompts to enter the random 4 character code. After that, I get a notice (in RED) that I need to either purchase or redeem Elite Dangerous in order to play it. I could never get past that part.

I'm stuck with the same issue, still haven't found a way to get it to work

Had to give up for the night. Ended up watching Netflix. Dad with 3 kids, my time is precious. lol. I hope they/we can figure out a fix or workaround before the weekend. Good luck and good night from the states. I'll check back tomorrow. :)

So i managed to find a solution. If you delete the FORC-FDEV-DO-1000 folder under "Products" in the game file, you can redownload the Odyssey update after launching through Steam, and it should let you start the game. i don't know if this is a permanent fix though, but you should be able to get in at least once.
