Unbearable stuttering VR

So ive tried numerous things, what i can confirm its not is.

  • Its not Performance related, i had it on both the highest and lowest performance settings with 0 stutter change and 0 PC lag, also other more intensive applications run just fine
  • Not related to out of date drivers, everything is the latest
  • Not a bad install, fresh install and files have been verified
  • not related to any sort of external hook such as; gamebar, game mode, steam overlay, nvidia overlay, and so on as all are disabled
  • unrelated to temps
Things i have noticed

  • the stutters only occur in the application itself and effect the applications audio, everything else is uneffected
  • actions do not increase or decrease the stuttering
  • only change to the stuttering is a slight increase in occurrences after the application has been running for a bit regardless of current state of play
  • stutters affect everything VR given the application is loaded, however the instant its no longer loaded all stuttering stops instantly.
  • all performance % never/rarely go above 80%
Ive played in the past with 0 issues with the same setup, so this is very frustrating. I hit a wall on things to try, so i am reaching out here for something i may not have found or tried.

Thank you, i understand that however i did not know about that issue (as the games ive been playing seem unaffected) i downgraded my drivers to 531.29 and its smooth as butter! TYSM!

Idk if that comment about my GPU was in jest or not so i want warn you that was pretty rude, i understand fully well my GPU is a budget VR ready gpu, i may not get the best performance on it but most games at medium are smooth. For next time unless you plan to buy the person a GPU please keep in mind that not all of us have the luxury to be able to afford 300+ gpu's and i personally barely afforded it as a upgrade to my gtx970 (i bought it when it was cheaper and on sale).

Glad it worked mate.

I wasn't being rude. I only have a used 1070 (up from a used 750ti) so I was just speaking from experience. I know for a fact an upgrade is inevitable in the near future, if I want to keep gaming.

i understand as well, and i plan to upgrade when i can. I figured you had no intention of being rude, but im not very good at discerning these things. Spent to much time on the internet so nothing surprises me.

There's actually a lot of truth to the new driver not being best, especially with older hardware. The newer drivers are usually to increase performance on newer hardware, and then there's the factor lately of making customers "beta test" everything for them so they don't have to spend money on internal testing, etc.

@Sylveria I always keep a copy of the last driver of each major version just for this reason.
There is also the established fact of companies dumbing down older hardware through
SW updates to make sure you buy their latest garbage. Planned obsolescence.

I have had stuttering only when flying around and turning the ship or pitching the ship. Objects would jitter and frustrate me. I fixed it by going to fullscreen and turning on Vsync. Smooth now for me. I know this post is old, but I recently discovered it and wanted to share my fix.
