Unclassified Relic

Spoilers head, head out if you need to.
Unclassified Relic

Origin: A Guardian Relic that is transformed when inserted into Thargoid Imprint Site and the site activated.

Use: Unknown

Testing:

  • Inserted into Guardian weapon blueprint site, not accepted.
  • Inserted into Guardian module blueprint site, not accepted.
  • If jettisoned to a Thargoid Interceptor, it will scoop the item and depart.

For anyone else wondering why they can't set Fleet Carrier buy/sell orders for Unclassified Relic... well I am too, and I opened an Issue about it: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/51925

Oh, also, Re: obtaining them:
It's a little misleading, to players new to this whole thing, to refer to "Thargoid Imprint Site".

What you want is an Active Thargoid Site. And within it you want the main 'Thargoid Device', not the smaller rooms with 'Thargoid Uplink' in them.

I had a hell of a time obtaining my three samples, due to doing this all from scratch, and some of the terminology on sites like canonn.science being a little misleading.

You can't buy/sell everything on a carrier. There are literally dozens of rare goods that can't be traded.
This item in particular doesn't even exist in Horizons, what will happen if a Horizons player buys one from a carrier?

Yes, but in general this is a 'Salvage' item, and you can trade all the others of those, including Guardian Relics, Thargoid Sensors etc, on a Fleet Carrier.

Do you have any specifics? An issue with the terminology is that it changes over time (Unknown Artefacts becoming Thargoid Sensors etc), so it does get messy. If you have specific pages I can take a look.

Ah, actually now I go back and look, I think the issue was me attempting to learn about all of this from scratch, pinging all over the place as I went through "Thargoid Imprint Site? where? Oh crap, door won't open, OK, need a Thargoid Sensor, where ? OK, got that, now skim-read this bit again, Uplink?" and spent far too long attempting to get the Uplink device room I'd found to accept the Guardian Relics, when what I actually needed was the main 'Thargoid Device' room.

In my state of "I know how it works now" the canonn.science pages about this are clear, it was just that "argh, OK, what NOW?" rush of skim-reading that lead me down the wrong path. Possibly combined with the layout of the Thargoid Site (Active) I chose to do this at having me come across a 'Thargoid Uplink' in a room with three structures that looked like you couldd possibly place things on them to do something.

In the end I found a YouTube video that made it clear I needed to be in the main Thargoid Device room.

Ah ok - well if you do think of specific feel free to share. It's a difficult balance between documenting the many edge cases and historical parts of the game (especially Thargoids where stuff regularly moves around), and we don't always get it right. More videos is probably a good idea (y)

So that's why I failed to create those green shiny things! The Thargoid device just ate my grelics and even didn't say thanks. Well. gotta buy Odyssey.

Mmm, what happens if I create one in Odyssey and then relog to Horizons?

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I've found a little trick when creating Unclassified Relics. Once you scan the Device, all the Scavengers obviously turn hostile...
Disembark! The ones nearest will come for you, dispose of them with your weapon of choice, but after that, they ignore you. Wait for the five minutes whilst the Device cools off, and get back in the SRV. All the Scavengers have gone back to non-hostile. Makes life a lot easier ☺️

There's probably a small subtlety going on there.

In the patch notes, there was a note about scavenger hostility "requiring line of sight" now... and last time I tried to make grelics, initially, only the scavs in the room went hostile.

However, shooting the wall of the Thargoid structure makes scavengers turn hostile; I tested and this video still holds true today.

I suspect that anyone fending off scavengers just has the room go hostile, but stray shots from the SRV hit the structure walls and make the entire site go hostile. Perhaps this trigger doesn't exist when on-foot?

I find Scavs extremely squishy (with plasma weapons at least), more squishy than Guardian Sentinels for instance, so you could well be correct (edit: in that they are easytoon-shot, so you won't be damaging anything else). They really don't like you clipping the base with the SRV when going for the MA.
