Under Private Groups - automatically list most popular groups + group descriptions

Been lots of discussions about changing game modes and whatnot, but FD have stated time again this isn't going to change.

However, new players come and it takes time for them to learn about things like Mobius (not everyone reads forums), and we have risk averse people playing in open and then disconnecting when they get attacked and whatnot.

So, since a change of modes isn't an option, what other solutions exist?

My thought here would be to modfiy the private groups page to display the top 10 (in terms of members) private groups.

Ideally group owners should also be able to name their groups, and rename them (i presume this is at least partially the case to stop people creating groups with rude names, as commander names are already vetted, but same process could apply to group names).

Additionally, groups should be able to have a small description added to them. eg: "Mobius, the number 1 PvE group. No PvP except in confict zones."

A final tweak could also to be allow open groups, where people can join without waiting for the owner to accept. This will also allow group longevity, long after the group creator has stopped playing. At the moment, if Mobius stopped playing, or checking his requests, then a new group would have to be set up. A pain for all, especially the poor person who has to accept thousands of requests to join. It could also fracture the PvE community if multiple groups were set up in the wake of such an event.

Thoughts? Improvements? Suggestions? Objections?

(And please, let's not turn this into an Open vs Group vs Solo thread, keep it focused eh?)

Alternativly we could outlaw Murder and all will be good

Nope, FD have said murder is a valid gameplay choice. They might change the level of punishment and other mechanics, but its going to remain.

How about addressing the original post, instead of derailing the topic?

Thought of a change to my original suggestion. Make it list the top 10 most active groups (based on login activity) rather than members. Otherwise old stale groups that might be large could remain in the list. Or add different filters that can be applied.

...in lieu of a 'server list' this is a great idea. Tools to help players meet like minded individuals in game would be great, as well options to keep your group private.
