Under rated animals?

What is an animal that’s in the game you feel like doesn’t get much attention from most people but you just really love it for some reason or another?

For me it’s the African Buffalo. I really want more bovines there’s something cool powerful and peaceful about them.

the pangolins and Aardvarks deserve a shout as well

Spotted hyenas. Seems like they are not that commonly used, but I love them. They really have bad reputation among people, but they are so intelligent and unique.
And agree with the aardvarks, those are my favourite “surprise animal” that I did not expect to be included in base game.

The Llama is definitely underrated (unless it changed since they got Variations). I would love to see more Petting Zoo Animals in the Game

I love the hyenas! I agree that they seem to get the short end of the stick I always have a clan in my zoos!

I love making American prairie exhibit with bison and pronghorn. Makes me wish we had more animals from there like prairie dogs

Yup I agree! I strongly believe at some point we'll get a North American pack, but there's no guarantee the animals chosen would be prairie based.

Yea there’s other animals I’d prioritize from NA but if we don’t get prairie dogs in the pack we can potentially get them modded when we get meerkats

I love the reindeers I personally wish they were based on NA Caribou subspecies but that’s probably my bias. I always use them and love to have herds with snowy albinos mixed on there

I absolutely love to keep Reindeer in my Zoos. I just wish they would have some Variations.
Just researched and found out that the other Reindeer like the Finnish Forest Reindeer are just Subspecies instead of different Species as I thought before.
Which Subspecies it the one in the Game most likely?

I agree more variation would be dope! That’s why I always keep albinos in with them

Yes, they are. Actually, the two babies of my local zoo (Helsinki zoo) are Finnish forest reindeer. They will be released to the wild when they grow up as part of the reintroduction program. That's why I think Frontier didn't add the walk-in feature, because the animal in game represents both the wild and domestic subspecies.

Isn't the domesticated Reindeer technically the same Subspecies as one of the wild ones? Or is it like the Bactrian Camel Situation and the Ancestor of the domesticated Reindeer is already extinct?

I'm not an expert at all. What I've learnt in the time I've been living in Finland is that most of the reindeer in the country are a domesticated form of the wild mountain reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus). However, the Finnish forest reindeer (Rangifer tarandus fennicus) is a wild subspecies and it's near threatened. If there's a reindeer expert on the forum, please forget everything I said and listen to him/her .

I agree here. They are fascinating creatures with a very complex social system and great social intelligence.

You're right a lot of folks don't like them, though. When I was a kid I was at the LA zoo with my aunt, uncle and cousins, and I commented that I thought the hyenas were cute. My aunt kind of flipped out (she did love to be dramatic). "They are NOT cute and no you don't like them!!!! They are the ugliest mammals there are" blah, blah, blah. Grown ups did that sort of thing to kids a lot back then--told us what we liked and stated opinions as if they were facts.

I will also hazard a guess that she never saw a naked mole rat if she thought hyenas were the ugliest mammals. But I like naked mole rats too

I suppose I was fated to study zoology.

I also like the bongos being in the game. I don't know how loved they are by most players, but I think they are beautiful antelope with their stripes. I always enjoy them at zoos. Hope we get giant eland, and maybe kudu, someday too.

Black wildebeest - it was almost extinct one day and the history behind restoring the population is quite amazing. Also staple South African animal is a real treat for me.
