Underrated Ungulates

This is basically just a ungulate appreciation post.

"DISCLAIMER": generally I'm talking about antelopes, gazelles and types of animals like that (I'm not an animal expert so dont come for me lol).

Anyway, I think that ungulates are the best type of animals in the game (when i say types I mean bears, primates, big cats, etc.). They are so beautiful, their animations are stunning and they are so fun to manage in the game. So, I want to start a discussion about underrated ungulates in the game. My personal picks are the Nyala, Bongo, Thomson's Gazelle, Spingbok, and Pronghorn. I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks (and even if they're not "underrated", they're still cool too!).

My favorite if all is the bongo.

And, I think the sable antelope is semi-underrated, too.

Oh, and pronghorns? I was so excited whem they were in the base game

I honestly think all ungulates are severly underrated.
They belong to the most represented animals in most zoos, yet they dont get much recognition.
I really noticed how common and great they are in the zoo berlin, where about a third of the space was taken by ungulates and i loved it.
They had a whoule area for swine, one for bovine, one for deer, one for mountain caprids and one for antelopes and it was great!
If we are talking about my favourites in the game, it has to be the nyala, but as i sadly have never seen them in rl i have tobsay that both the bongo and the sable antelope are beautiful and impressive beings.

For antelopes not yet in the game i want to see a duiker and an elland, as well as either the nilgai or the blackbuck, preferably both.

For the none antelopes its easy, as their sadly are only one deer, 2 swine, 1,5 bovine (i honestly have never seen the blackbuffalo in use or in a zoo, the red forrest buffalo would have been a way better choice imo) and one caprid.
Criminal right?

I wish for atleast the forrest buffalo, my beloved fallow deer, the reddeer, alpine or siberian ibex and the peccary to join our ranks in the game, but if they would give us 3 more for each family i would not only be amazed, but also in love and satisfied

What is a caprid? And, what is the one caprid we have in Planet Zoo?

Even or odd toed ungulates? 🤔
Odd toes are arguably better off as it stands, with two representatives each for rhinos and tapirs... and while we only have one equid presently, Przewalski's horse is one of the species I'm most confident we'll end up getting at some point. And while I'd love to see a Somali wild something or other before it's all done, I'd be perfectly content without any more rhinos or especially tapirs. I realize that's not a universal opinion by far (and like, I sure wouldn't begrudge the black rhino in particular), but I think they're two very well represented groups compared to many others.

Even toes are in a sort of weirder place. There's been opportunities to add them, yet the only one we've gotten in the past 16 months has been the babirusa. And while I don't doubt for a second that we'll get a moose in a North American pack that will absolutely be coming sooner or later, beyond that it's so hard to guess anything about these guys. It really feels like we're desperately overdue for some more, especially ones from non-African regions. But there's also still plenty of African ones we're missing too, and at least in my experience those are the ones you see most often in zoos by a wiiiiide margin. I dunno, Frontier hasn't offered much to fix this ungulate drought, and at this point I'm not sure how much I expect them to beyond the bare minimum (moose, Przewalski's, maybe a European deer and/or ibex).

I'm so glad to see all the love here for ungulates! Bovids are my favourite mammal group and one of my greatest research interests from an academic perspective, their radiation into such diverse forms is what piques my interest the most, I think. So, to be honest I'm heavily biased in favour of more bovids and really, ungulates in general in the game. I always get a little sad when I see people saying that antelopes are boring. I think probably the most underrated are Thomson's gazelles and springbok (one of my favourites), I rarely see much love for them.

I have hopes that more ungulates will be added, in particular I'd love to see Przewalski's horse (taxonomic debate aside), some of the Asiatic bovids, the musk ox and some more cervids as currently we only have the reindeer (off the top of my head). Never going to say no to more African bovids either - still lots of opportunities for unique entries into the game there.

I don't mind those in my game, in most zoos i've got both or one of those but imo they are not the most excited species to build a habitat for.
Judging from the amount YT vids about building for these species, you might assume that applies to more people.
The sable antelope is present in a lot of my zoos as well.

To me, Springboks would be perfect if they would have the proper 'pronking' behaviour. It is iconic and really a shame that it wasn't properly added to the game.
Nyala is usually one I pick and also regret when my zoo gets bigger :D - they mess up their habitat quickly, breed fast. I do like their small habitat requirements.
