Understanding civil wars

Hi.

Im in ross 490 and there are two outpost which are in a civil war.

One is 12.1% the other 10.9% and a 3rd is 73%..

As i understand it the 73% station ha control of the system ross490, to change it from an independant corporate system i assume i need to increase one of the other two until it is about equal with the main starport.

Now i understand that all the ways you can influence them, but is it likely that 3 friend can have any effect?.

Does the population of the system effect gow fast/slow the influence changes?

Is there any hard literature which explains in details how it all works.

Even though we have done loads of missions and gained influence the 12.1% (anarchy state which we want to take over) hasnt changed.. Is there a timer or anythingh like it udates arver day etc.

Cheer

One persons actions isn't going to influence a war, especially if it is just to take out one or two ships or do a few cargo runs for them but will take the influence of lots of people. If you want a particular group to win, then be on their side but even though you do everything right, that side may still lose because there are other commands out there that may help or hinder you.
I suggest that you stick at it and see how things evolve and unfold.
Do jobs for your faction and disrupt others from opposing factions.

I've had similar issues to this myself. I've been in a system for 3 days now trying to change the influence of a station by helping them out and trying to hinder the others. I have done dozens of missions for them at this point, failed lots for the oppossing faction/station and nothing has happened of yet. The staion I am fighting for loves me and the others are hostile and i'm wanted by them. Yet despite all my efforts I haven't seen a single 0.1% influence change from any of the factions/stations within the system.

Then the other similar thing to the OP, you hit google and try find out info on what to do and the like and simply can't find anything at all. There's those few groups that have had some success and there is an old forum post from a dev explaining a little bit of the backgound systems to do with it all but that's it. No where does there seem to be genuine info on how it all works. Vague statements like "you need to increase civil unrest" does not actually help... I want to know how one does these things from an in game stand point.

I can only hope that as time goes on the Devs will improve the in game information to help us understand what is going on within the systems we choose to live in. For the time being I guess it's a matter of hoping the more diehard players will figure these things out and document it for the community as a whole.

Actually on this specific case I think this is done on purpose. The system is designed as a black box for the players to discover and that is one of the reasons the mission debrief is so detailed (dare I say, "immersion breaker" with those 0s and 1s ) so that you can make some sense of it. Of course in the current state of the game the problem with "black boxes" is the lack of trust that the entire system is not just bugged to hell.

Now one common theme about the guys that reported some success was that they started with very small systems, so to the OP: what is the population size of Ross 490? If you're going at it alone you may want to choose a system with the 2 following characteristics:

1) Low population that can be better manipulated by small operations
2) Out in the bunnies to reduce interference from other commanders

Alternatively of course, join one of the existing groups as that will allow you to get a better understanding of the system for when you want to do it yourself.

The population is 16.1 million.

We just happened to fall on this system and see ut was in civil war, so we are trying to push it so we can see how it works.

I think this politics side of the game has a lot of potential. I've also been trying to manipulate the faction influences, but even though the final mission brief says influence +1, I don't see the system status changing to reflect that.

It could get really interesting if you could start flipping who controls various systems. Sol is currently in Federation space, but imagine if the Empire started spreading beyond it's current boundary and came close to taking the Sol system. I imagine you'd get a lot of battles taking place for that system.
