Newcomer / Intro Understanding jump range

Hello,

I don't know if I'm still a newcomer but this is as a very basic question anyway, I suppose I don't understand something.
I had a 4C class jumpdrive on my Type-6. Planned a route between GD 219 and Gilgamesh. This required 4 (or maybe 5) jumps.
Good profit, but as I can afford a 4A jumpdrive, I bought one, thinking of travelling faster.
Well, the route is still exactly the same. I have to jump several times around 5 LY, than a last jump of around 10.
Even with my C rated fsd I had 12 LY of range with full cargo. Now 18 and I cannot use a shortcut.
What's going wrong ? Why can't a skip a jump ?

Thank you in advance,

In galaxy map, under the navigation tab, check for 'plot fastest route' instead of 'plot for economical route'. Then (re)select your target, and click the plot route icon.

Ah yes. I remember the good old days when we had a map, made out of something called 'paper'. Apparently that is some dead trees that have been processes to be flat, thin and flexible. Anyways, this could only be folded out, never back in to its' original configuration. It also required something called 'girlfriend' or 'wife' to nag you half to death to stop and ask directions after you invariably got lost somewhere. :)
