Newcomer / Intro Understanding Rebuy

Being new Im still in a sidewinder and understand the rebuy process for that ship. But as of today I understand that its 10% for any other base ship and an additional cost of 5% for any additional modules if you choose the module option. Why then when looking at other new ships I see that the insurance or rebuy is only 5% and that the federation covers 95% of your ship? I also know that its good practice to have doubled or tripled that rebuy amount in your total credits.

The Pilots Federation provides the insurance cover for all its members ships except for the last 5% of the cost (the rebuy), that will get you back the ship as it was including modules and any engineering unless you choose not to, for an additional charge you can also recover any NPC crew on board at the time of the loss. The cost is the cost paid for the ship and fitted modules.

If you sell a ship you will only get 90% of the price paid for it and any modules left fitted, if you sell modules separately you will get back the price paid for them. So it is highly recommended that you remove as many modules as possible and replace essential modules with the cheapest versions available to minimise losses when selling.

When new also worth knowing is that ships and modules bougth in Li Yong-Rui space gets a 15% discount.

Also, when you get blowd up:

- all cargo is lost,

-all exploration data not turned in is lost,

- all bounties from ship combat are lost,

- all missions are lost/failed,

- when you rebuy, the paint and integrity will be restored to 100%. I add this because some folks like to keep their paint grungy so they have to re-grunge their paint.

The rebuy cost for the ship you are currently flying is always shown on the right panel, for easy reference. Be sure you always have at least that much cash or you risk losing the ship.

That's really all it boils down to.

As you get more expensive ships, the rebuy cost will go up accordingly. It's pretty simple.
