The following video by Cmdr Exigeous is by far the best tutorial I've seen when trying to understand the graphics settings in ED. The Cmdr runs through each of the graphics settings for both their visual quality on the game and the framerate impact. The results are surprising. I highly recommend this video to all players, but particularly those having trouble getting the visual/framerate balance in VR since Odyssey dropped.
If you are using Drkaii's ED Profiler App, I recommend you apply the settings using the app when viewing the video. Then save the profile (or profiles if you want to test different combo's when you are in the game).
