Undiscovered Country

Hi all,

As I understand it, Elite on PS4 will not be cross-platform for online play. The obvious implication is that I won't be able to fly along side someone playing on a PC or Xbox. My question is, do events that happen on the PC and / or Xbox servers affect the PS4 universe?

I'm particularly interested in exploration - is the PS4 universe unexplored (thus the "undiscovered country" title), or will all the systems that have been explored on the PC servers be marked as explored on the PS4? If the latter, will the servers of the different platforms sync up? If I discover a new planet after PS4 Elite launches, will that be reflected on PC and Xbox servers?

Thanks for any insights!

Hey OldDuck. The answer to your questions is mostly: yes. Events are synced across all platorms, discoveries are synced across all platforms. We PS4 players will come late to the party, but still there is a LOT to discover out there. Any new discovery yu'll make, will be yours, and seen by all players from that moment onwards.

Coupla things on this one - PC and Xbox players cannot fly along side each other either, there is no cross-play between them, in terms of flying in game, but there is just one Elite universe shared between all platforms so if you are pushing a faction, others on PC and XBox can push that faction too and you'll see their effects and they will see yours etc.

And for the "First Discovered" tag on found bodies, these are shared too so if you find an undiscovered planet, you'll be the first CMDR across all platforms to find that body (star, planet, moon)

Don't forget that the first discovery tag only happens if you are also the first cmdr to hand in that exploration data at a station. If you die before you hand it in, it's gone. Fly safe cmdrs o7

Thank you, and everyone else, for clearing this up for me. Next question - does anyone know if there are still cataloged star systems (the systems generated using actual data collected by astronomers) that are unexplored? How much of these "real" systems are encompassed by the bubble?

I find the Stellar Forge fascinating, and I'm not opposed to exploring procedurally-generated sectors of the galaxy, but there's something about "discovering" an actual system visible in the real night sky that I find extra intriguing.

Thanks!

Most of the catalogued systems have been discovered by now i think, since most are within a few thousand LYs of Sol.

However, there might be a few out there that still have not been tagged. We do have lots of space nuts playing though, who might have gone through Simbad and deliberately tagged even the more remote ones.

Robigo's out, then I see. Oh well.

One thing that is interesting is that all PS4 CMDR's will all be on relatively equal footing the first couple of weeks. Obviously, the casual vs. dedicated players will tip the balance in the months to come, but I personally look forward to watching the first few CG's become nothing but Suicidewinders and Eagles getting into pew pew slap fights.

Yeh I think its probably worth getting involved in the CGs early doors. :)

Forgive me, but what does CG stand for? [blah]

Community Goal. Its a 'mission' of sorts that is open to all for a week, or until finished. The more the community contributes, the more everyone gets. Often it also has 'global effects'. For example the building of a new station. The more contributions are made, the bigger the station will be.

I dont know. Plenty of systems within a few thousand LY are still untagged, and many stars in the catalogues are fairly non-descript anyway. The famous ones are all taken, sure, but some backwater star should be still up for grabs I think.

I have no idea if there is a "thumbs up" or "thanks" button for individual posts, so instead I'll just thank everyone the old fashioned way for your answers and feedback!

Quick question - what is Discord? Is it another forum, or something else? The name rings a bell, but that's it.

"Free Voice and Text Chat for Gamers"

Similar apps of it kind are Teamspeak and IRC... Discord being the newer platform of the three
