Undiscovered real stars in the Elite galaxy

I remember my first. HD 102270. It is a B class star that at the time I discovered it spins so fast you can watch it spin, I made a video but it is of poor quality. It's been about a year, so I don't know if it still does that. I am going to check it out when I get back from Distant Stars.

i got 3 last week, theres still a lot of systems less than 2-3k ly from sol, even real name ones that are still unclaimed, its a poor showing on the exploration community that such inclose exploration hasnt been done in favour of similiar like minded highways, but there is a growing movement in general to fill in the gaps as we move outwards

A lot of it depends on which way you leave the bubble, I know if you head out towards the obvious destinations like Barnard's Loop, Jacques, Eagle Nebula etc you can go 3K LY on long jumps and every system you hit will be discovered. On my trip out to Hawkins Gap, I went directly towards it but headed downwards because I wanted to use neutron boosting on the second half of the journey; I left from Volcanis on the edge of the bubble and hit my first undiscovered system after 550 LY. I'm sure there would have been plenty closer than that too since I was doing long jumps in a ship with a 50LY range.

Have the players managed to get all the way across the galaxy to the other side and dropped into mostly every galaxy out there or what? :O

There have been organised expeditions as well as individuals crossing the galaxy for ages, it's fairly easy to cover large distances in thsi game, a substantial amount of us made it to the core and back not long after game release. As has been said though, you don't need to travel fast in a long range ship for exploration, there is still plenty of stuff close in you can find and a shorter range ship will drop into gaps other players jump over.

Hmm, I visited a number of HIPs and HDsin early 2015 but can't find them in https://www.edsm.net/.
I'll have to look in-game later.
I didn't have the EDSM add-on at the time, and it looks like no one else using that has passed by those since.

Assuming that by 'galaxy' you mean 'system' (we can't leave the milky way galaxy in the game) there are roughly 400 billion stars in the game so no, they haven't all been scanned. Someone will post the actual percentage of systems in the game that have been discovered (i.e. scanned by a player) so far I'm sure and it's very, very small.

However there are 'only' about 160,000 real stars that were included in the game, i.e. actual stars that you can look out of your window and see. The rest are procedurally generated, based on sound scientific principles by the Stellar Forge, the software engine that was developed to create the other stars needed to populate the game's galaxy. Personally, I think it's nice to 'discover' one of the real ones for the first time.
